Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today, October 12, 2026: Can Nifty Hold 22,500 as Crude Tops $105?
The Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today starts with a recovery that still needs to prove itself. Nifty bounced on Friday, Wall Street finished higher, and domestic institutions continued buying. But higher crude oil and tighter banking liquidity could test that confidence.
Nifty’s latest cash close is 22,520.45, up 288.65 points, while Sensex finished at 72,472.33, gaining 879.09 points. These are Friday, October 9 closes. Sunday was not a trading session.
The early Monday oil update is less comfortable: Brent reached $105.48 a barrel at 4:34 AM IST. Meanwhile, the available GIFT Nifty quote remains from the previous overnight session. It should not be presented as Monday’s live opening signal.
Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: Previous Session Summary
| Indicator | Friday, October 9 data | What it tells readers |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,520.45; +288.65 (+1.30%) | Recovered above 22,500 |
| Sensex | 72,472.33; +879.09 (+1.23%) | Large-cap sentiment improved |
| Bank Nifty | About 55,257; +1.36% | Banks joined the recovery |
| Nifty session range | 22,294.75–22,580.75 | Friday’s high is an immediate reference |
| Sensex session range | 71,739.49–72,669.20 | Shows the size of the rebound |
| India VIX | About 14.4 | Volatility eased, but caution remains |
| FII cash activity | Net selling ₹3,568.90 crore | Foreign selling continued |
| DII cash activity | Net buying about ₹4,743.3 crore | Domestic buying exceeded foreign selling |
What changed on Friday?
The rebound brought buyers back after Thursday’s sharp fall. Still, one positive session does not establish a lasting recovery.
Nifty’s RSI recovered to 36.5, still below 40. Momentum remained weak.
For Monday, watch whether early gains spread beyond a few heavyweight stocks. A rising index with weak broader participation deserves more caution than a recovery supported across sectors.
Global Cues: US and European Markets Close Higher
These are the latest completed Friday, October 9 cash-market sessions.
| Index | Closing level and daily change | Quick reading |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones | 51,654.95; +423.31 (+0.83%) | Stronger US blue-chip finish |
| S&P 500 | 7,811.54; +46.18 (+0.59%) | Positive broad-market cue |
| Nasdaq Composite | 27,366.17; +172.83 (+0.64%) | Technology sentiment improved |
| FTSE 100 | 10,552.05; +1.06% | UK equities joined the recovery |
| DAX | 25,087.27; +1.13% | German shares recovered |
| CAC 40 | 7,803.33; +0.95% | French equities finished higher |
| STOXX Europe 600 | 631.55; +0.97% | Broad European recovery |
Europe benefited from an earlier easing in oil and bond yields. An EU–China agreement also helped carmakers. Telecom shares were an exception, falling after SpaceX’s US spectrum deal raised competition concerns.
That makes Friday’s positive finish useful background, but Monday’s fresh oil move needs separate attention.

Indian ADR and GDR Update
The latest completed US regular-session ADR prices are from October 9, not Sunday night:
- Infosys ADR: $10.73, +0.28% — a mildly positive overseas IT cue.
- HDFC Bank ADR: $22.28, +1.23% — a firmer banking signal.
- ICICI Bank ADR: $27.89, −0.04% — broadly unchanged.
- Wipro ADR: $1.70, +1.80% — stronger percentage performance.
Reliance Industries GDR, London RIGD: $48.25, down 0.62%, with the provider showing October 9 at 4:35 PM BST. This is a delayed closing reference.
Depositary receipts provide an overseas sentiment check. Their prices also reflect currency movements, receipt ratios and different trading hours, so they are not direct rupee-price targets for Indian shares.
Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex Support and Resistance
Nifty 50
- Latest close: 22,520.45.
- Immediate support area: 22,300.
- Lower support: 22,180.
- First hurdle: Friday’s high near 22,581.
- Stronger recovery hurdle: 22,800, followed by 23,000.
A move above Friday’s high would be encouraging. Holding that breakout matters more than briefly crossing it.
Bank Nifty
- Latest close: approximately 55,257.
- Support references: 54,791, then 54,602.
- Resistance references: 55,404, then 55,593 and 55,900.
Sensex
Using Friday’s high, low and close, conventional daily pivot calculations give:
- Central pivot: approximately 72,294.
- Support: approximately 71,918 and 71,364.
- Resistance: approximately 72,848 and 73,223.
These Sensex levels are our calculations, rounded to whole points. The pivot is the average of the previous high, low and close; it provides a reference for the next session rather than a forecast.
Open Interest, Put-Call Ratio and India VIX
Friday’s published options snapshot showed:
- Nifty maximum Call OI: 23,000 strike, approximately 1.42 crore.
- Nifty maximum Put OI: 22,500 strike, approximately 1.28 crore.
- Nifty PCR: 1.14, compared with 0.73 previously.
- Bank Nifty monthly maximum Call OI: 56,000 strike, approximately 11.48 lakh.
- Bank Nifty monthly maximum Put OI: 55,000 strike, approximately 12.4 lakh.
- India VIX: around 14.4.
The OI quantities above follow the publisher’s reported basis. Check whether your terminal displays contracts, lots or underlying units before comparing quantities.
PCR compares Put OI with Call OI. A rise shows more Put OI relative to Calls; it does not, by itself, identify whether traders bought protection or sold Puts.
Likewise, large Put OI does not guarantee support. Watch what happens to price and positioning together after trading starts. Friday’s snapshot can change quickly.
Moneycontrol — Trade Setup for October 12, 2026
FII and DII Activity: Domestic Buying Remains Supportive
Friday’s provisional cash-market figures showed foreign selling of ₹3,568.90 crore and domestic institutional buying of approximately ₹4,743.3 crore. The combined balance was roughly ₹1,174 crore of net buying.
Domestic institutions absorbed more than the reported foreign selling. That is supportive, but it does not prove that overseas sentiment has improved.
Keep daily exchange cash-market activity separate from broader FPI investment figures, which may include other routes and different reporting periods.
Global News and Geopolitics: What Matters for India
Weekend attacks involving Saudi Arabia and tankers near Oman and the Strait of Hormuz renewed supply concerns. Trump also announced a Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire, although its implementation needs monitoring.
For Indian investors, the practical transmission is through fuel costs, freight, inflation and currency pressure.
- Airlines: higher fuel costs can squeeze profitability.
- Paints and chemicals: some raw materials are linked to crude.
- Oil producers: higher selling prices may help, depending on costs and policy.
- Consumer businesses: prolonged inflation can reduce discretionary spending.
Watch actual crude prices and company disclosures rather than assuming every energy headline affects every sector equally.
RBI and SEBI Updates: Two Different Market Impacts
RBI liquidity measures put banks in focus
The RBI announced ₹25,000 crore of open-market bond sales for Tuesday. It also raised the daily maintenance requirement for banks’ existing CRR obligation from 90% to 99%, effective October 16.
This is a change in daily maintenance, not a CRR rate of 99%.
Our reading: less surplus liquidity could make bank funding conditions tighter. That gives traders another reason to check whether Friday’s banking recovery continues.
Latest verified SEBI circulars
The latest circulars visible on SEBI’s official list were dated October 7 and covered:
- A Credit Risk-o-Meter disclosure mechanism for debt securities.
- Merchant-banker appointment exemptions for certain private debt placements.
- Changes to ISIN provisions for privately placed debt securities.
These relate mainly to debt-market disclosures and issuance processes. Their direct relevance is greater for bond investors and issuers than for an intraday Nifty trade. They should not be described as fresh equity-expiry rules.
Two Growth Stocks to Watch: CG Power and Trent
These are research watchlist names, not buy calls. Q1 FY27 covers April–June 2026.
1. CG Power: Order Growth Supports the Business Case
Q1 FY27 standalone results:
- Sales: ₹3,061 crore, up 16% year on year.
- Profit after tax: ₹364 crore, up 27%.
- EBITDA margin: 16.9%, versus 15.4%.
- Unexecuted order backlog: ₹17,333 crore, up 45%.
The order book provides visibility, but investors should track how efficiently orders turn into revenue and cash.
Performance was not equally strong across divisions. Industrial Systems profitability faced a one-off railway provision, while Power Systems delivered faster growth.
Technical watch:
Friday’s NSE close was ₹855.55, with a high of ₹865.70 and low of ₹840.15.
Our short-term reference is therefore ₹840 on the downside and ₹866 on the upside. A sustained move beyond the upper level would be more useful than a brief intraday spike.
Outlook: Watch execution, margins and valuation together. A growing business can still be an expensive investment.
CG Power — Official Q1 FY27 Results, NSE Filing (PDF)
2. Trent: Expansion Continues, but Existing-Store Growth Matters
Q1 FY27 standalone results:
- Revenue: ₹5,666 crore, up about 18.5%.
- Net profit: ₹532 crore, up about 26%.
- Operating EBITDA: ₹847 crore, up 36%.
- Quarter-end network included 301 Westside and 982 Zudio stores.
Store expansion supports growth. However, like-for-like fashion sales growth was in the low single digits, so investors should also monitor demand in existing stores.
Technical watch:
- Friday close: ₹2,918.20, up 1.46%.
- Reported 200-day average: approximately ₹2,898.
- Friday high/low: ₹2,931/₹2,855.
Our reading: holding around the 200-day average would support the recent improvement. A break above ₹2,931 needs follow-through; losing ₹2,855 would weaken this short-term setup.
Outlook: Check store productivity, inventory and margins in the next full results. Q1 growth alone should not decide the entry price.

IPO Updates: What Is Open and What Comes Next?
Zerodha’s calendar shows these scheduled issues:
- HD Fire Protect — mainboard: October 13–15; ₹258–₹271.
- Ravita Engineering Services — SME: October 13–15; ₹105–₹112.
- Vaibhav Vyapaar — SME: October 13–15; ₹50–₹52.
At this check, Zerodha’s live section showed Social Stock Exchange fundraising issues, rather than a conventional equity IPO open for subscription. These are different instruments and should not be grouped with ordinary share IPOs.
Before applying, check the offer document, use of funds, operating cash flow and valuation. Grey-market premiums are unofficial and do not assure listing gains.

| USD/INR | ₹96.73 per dollar | Friday closing reference |
MCX figures are Friday’s late-session quotes, not Monday morning trades. They are futures prices, not jewellery-shop rates.
Domestic precious-metal prices respond to both international prices and the rupee. A weaker rupee can support local prices even when dollar-denominated gold is softer.
Short-Term and Long-Term Investment Approach
For short-term participants
- Let the opening range develop before judging the day’s direction.
- Check whether banks and broader market breadth confirm the index move.
- Set position size around a defined loss limit.
- Avoid treating a single OI strike as a guaranteed floor.
- Recheck commodity prices before carrying an oil-sensitive position.
For long-term investors
- Review earnings, cash generation and debt before reacting to a price fall.
- Spread purchases over time when the investment case remains sound.
- Keep money needed soon outside volatile equity positions.
- Compare growth expectations with the valuation already built into the share price.
CG Power and Trent offer different business exposures. Their results provide a starting point for research; neither needs to be bought simply because it appears in today’s report.
Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points to Watch
- Opening view: cautious and conditional. Friday’s global gains help sentiment, but the fresh GIFT Nifty session is needed before assigning a clear opening bias.
- Nifty’s first test is holding around 22,500 and clearing Friday’s high. Sustained buying would make the recovery more convincing.
- A failed rebound would put Friday’s lower range back in focus. Avoid assuming one strong session has ended the broader correction.
- Banks could decide the quality of the recovery. Watch their response to RBI liquidity measures alongside the index move.
- Oil remains a key external risk. Further strength could offset positive equity cues and keep sector performance uneven.
