Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today October 6, 2026: Can Nifty Hold 22,500?
Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today begins with a recovery that still needs a second good session. Nifty reclaimed 22,500 on Monday, Wall Street finished higher overnight, and crude settled lower. That gives buyers something to work with.
But the picture is not one-sided. Foreign investors continued selling Indian shares, volatility rose, and the RBI policy decision is due on October 7. Even a positive opening could face profit-taking.
The question for today: can buying continue after the opening move, or will Monday’s bounce lose steam?
Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: Previous Session Post-Market Summary — October 5, 2026
Indian markets recovered on Monday, with Nifty closing above 22,500 and Sensex gaining nearly 473 points. Domestic institutional buying supported the market, although foreign selling continued.
| Market indicator | October 5 closing data | Key takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,555.75; +133.80 points (+0.60%) | Reclaimed 22,500 after the recent decline. |
| Sensex | 72,382.47; +472.77 points (+0.66%) | Finished above 72,000. |
| Bank Nifty | 54,714.10; +263.35 points (+0.48%) | Banks participated in the recovery. |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | Up 0.67% | Outperformed Nifty slightly. |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | Up 0.47% | Broader market also finished higher. |
| Nifty FMCG | Up about 1.80% | Consumer stocks supported the advance. |
| Nifty Pharma | Down 0.74% | Pharma remained under pressure. |
| India VIX | 14.77; up 2.21% | Expected volatility increased despite the rebound. |
| Nifty OI Put-Call Ratio | 0.94, versus 0.77 previously | Put OI increased relative to Call OI. |
| Largest Nifty Call OI strike | 23,000 | Significant overhead positioning. |
| Largest Nifty Put OI strike | 22,500 | Important options level near the closing price. |
| Strongest fresh Call writing | 22,800 | Traders added overhead Call positions. |
| Strongest fresh Put writing | 22,500 | Put positions increased around this strike. |
| FII cash-market activity | Approximately ₹4,699 crore net selling | Foreign investors remained sellers. |
| DII cash-market activity | Approximately ₹5,182 crore net buying | Domestic institutions absorbed substantial supply. |
| Combined institutional flow | Approximately ₹483 crore net buying | DII buying exceeded FII selling. |
| USD/INR | ₹96.2925 per dollar | Rupee ended marginally stronger than ₹96.3150 previously. |
Important Stock Moves
| Stock | October 5 performance | Session takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| ITC | ₹267.80; +4.65% | Among the strongest Nifty performers. |
| Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles | ₹288.15; +3.13% | Contributed to the recovery. |
| Bajaj Finance | ₹970.90; +2.38% | Supported financial-sector sentiment. |
What stood out: The recovery extended beyond large caps, but rising VIX and continued FII selling suggest caution remained. Nifty holding above 22,500 in the next session would help build confidence; one positive close alone does not confirm a trend reversal.
Global Cues: Nasdaq Sets a Record, Europe Remains Uneven
The US session ended on October 5, corresponding to early October 6 in India.
| Index | Previous-session close | Daily change |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones | 51,267.90 | +90.94 (+0.18%) |
| S&P 500 | 7,773.95 | +51.23 (+0.66%) |
| Nasdaq Composite | 27,477.31 | +286.45 (+1.05%) |
| STOXX Europe 600 | 633.62 | +0.36% |
| FTSE 100 | 10,497.94 | +0.34% |
| Germany DAX | 25,254.21 | +0.09% |
| France CAC 40 | 7,834.10 | −0.80% |
The single-line reasons behind the moves:
- US: AI-related buying and corporate deals supported shares.
- Europe: Banks and miners helped the wider market recover.
- France: Fiscal concerns and a sharp fall in Schneider Electric weighed on Paris.
The US 10-year Treasury yield was around 5.31%, according to the closing report. Expensive borrowing remains a concern even when technology stocks rally.
For Indian readers, the distinction is simple: a strong Nasdaq helps sentiment, but it does not automatically mean Indian IT services companies will rise.

Asian Markets and GIFT Nifty: October 6, 2026
GIFT Nifty and Asian Markets
| Market | Latest available reading | Quick takeaway |
| GIFT Nifty | 22,640 points | Provider timestamp: 8:00 AM IST; slightly lower against its displayed previous close |
| Nikkei 225 — indicative derived quote | 70,219.50; +0.39% | Japan remains positive |
| Australia ASX 200 | 8,731.40; +0.52% | Australian equities advance |
| Hang Seng — indicative derived quote | 24,267; +0.94% | Positive indication; not a confirmed cash-market reading |
| South Korea KOSPI | 6,984.65; −0.27% | Korea is weaker than the broader regional trend |
| Taiwan Weighted | 49,726.93; +0.03% | Almost flat |
| Shanghai Composite | 3,842.19 — September 30 reference | The retrieved feed has no fresh October 6 cash quote |
Why Asia is holding up: Wall Street’s technology rally and the overnight retreat in oil supported sentiment. High US bond yields remain a concern.
GIFT Nifty clarification: The latest timestamped source shows a previous-close reference of 22,657. Earlier news reports used a different reference when describing gains. Avoid combining one provider’s price with another provider’s point change. Its premium over Nifty cash also does not equal a guaranteed opening gap.

| MCX Silver December | ₹2,26,240 per kg; +0.16% | Displayed reference; not verified as today’s live price |
MCX data note: Dhan displays the above prices, but its silver page currently carries an invalid timestamp. Treat both MCX figures as reference quotes pending a reliable session update—not fresh morning trades or confirmed settlements.
Indian ADR and GDR Update
Overseas Indian shares gave a more cautious signal than the US indices.
- Infosys ADR: closed at $10.76, down 2.54%. The available after-hours quote was unchanged at $10.76.
- HDFC Bank ADR: closed at $22.11, down 1.03%. The available after-hours quote was $22.21, up 0.45% from that close.
- Reliance Industries GDR, London RIGD: closed at $49.35, up 0.51%.
The ADR closes are for October 5 in the US. After-hours timestamps were 6:07 PM EDT for Infosys and 5:51 PM EDT for HDFC Bank. Reliance’s London quote was timestamped 4:35 PM BST.
These receipts are useful sentiment checks. Currency changes, trading hours and receipt-to-share ratios mean they are not exact forecasts for the Indian opening.
Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex Support and Resistance
| Index | Support references | Resistance references |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,439; 22,386; 22,300 | 22,611; 22,664; 22,750 |
| Bank Nifty | 54,445; 54,251; 53,937 | 55,073; 55,267; 55,581 |
| Sensex | Around 71,840; then 71,300 | Around 72,630; then 73,060 |
Nifty and Bank Nifty figures are published pivot levels. Sensex zones are our rounded references from recent session highs and lows, not exchange-issued targets.
A support level is an area where buying may appear. Resistance is where selling may increase. Neither is a promise.
For beginners, wait to see how price behaves around a level. A brief touch tells less than a sustained move, especially when the rest of the market is moving in the opposite direction.
Open Interest, PCR and India VIX
Monday’s reported weekly Nifty options positioning showed:
- Largest Call OI: 23,000, followed by 22,800 and 22,900.
- Largest Put OI: 22,500, followed by 22,400 and 22,300.
- Strongest fresh Call writing: 22,800.
- Strongest fresh Put writing: 22,500.
- OI Put-Call Ratio: 0.94, up from 0.77.
- India VIX: 14.77, up 2.21%.
These are reported end-of-session positions, not today’s live option chain. Absolute OI quantities are omitted because their units were not independently reconciled with the exchange chain.
PCR compares Put OI with Call OI. It cannot tell us, by itself, whether participants are buying protection, selling options or building spreads. Likewise, heavy Put OI does not guarantee support.
The rise in VIX alongside the index rebound suggests that uncertainty has not disappeared.
Moneycontrol – Trade Setup for October 6: Nifty Levels, OI and Market Outlook
Nifty Weekly Expiry Watch: October 6, 2026
22,500 is the main options level to watch today, with Call positioning concentrated at 22,800–23,000.
Nifty weekly options follow Tuesday expiry under NSE’s current specifications. Data below refers to October 5 closing positioning, not live October 6 trading.
| Indicator | Latest available data | What readers should watch |
| Nifty previous close | 22,555.75 | Starting reference for today’s session |
| Nearest ATM strike | 22,550, based on previous close | Changes as the index moves |
| Largest Put OI strike | 22,500 | Potential support; not a guaranteed floor |
| Other major Put OI strikes | 22,400 and 22,300 | Lower zones to track |
| Largest Call OI strike | 23,000 | Potential overhead resistance |
| Other major Call OI strikes | 22,800 and 22,900 | Recovery hurdles |
| Strongest fresh Call addition | 22,800, followed by 22,600 | Check whether these positions unwind |
| Strongest fresh Put addition | 22,500, followed by 22,400 | Check whether support positioning holds |
| Reported Nifty PCR | 0.94 versus 0.77 | Put OI increased relative to Calls |
| India VIX | 14.77, up 2.21% | Options are pricing higher volatility |
| Pivot supports | 22,439 / 22,386 / 22,300 | Reference levels below spot |
| Pivot resistances | 22,611 / 22,664 / 22,750 | Reference levels above spot |
How to Read Today’s Expiry Moves
- Price and OI together: Rising OI alone cannot tell you whether buyers or sellers are driving the position.
- Support confirmation: A support strike becomes more useful when the index holds above it and buying follows.
- Breakout confirmation: A brief move above resistance can fail. Watch whether the next few candles hold the move.
- Premium decay: An option can lose value even when your direction is right if the move is too small or too slow.
- Position size: Expiry-day premiums can change sharply. Avoid treating low-priced options as low-risk trades.
PCR note: Providers can show different ratios because of expiry selection, strike coverage and update time. Use the same expiry and source when comparing changes. Max pain has not been independently verified, so no settlement “magnet” is assumed here.
For educational purposes only. Verify the October 6 contract and live option chain before trading; these levels do not guarantee an outcome.
FII and DII: Buying Support, but Foreign Selling Persists
Provisional cash-market figures show foreign selling of roughly ₹4,699 crore, against domestic buying of about ₹5,182 crore on Monday.
That leaves approximately ₹483 crore of combined net institutional buying. Figures are rounded because published providers differ slightly at the decimal level.
Domestic funds helped absorb supply. Still, one positive combined figure is not evidence that foreign investors have returned. Watch the pattern over several sessions rather than drawing a conclusion from one day.
Crude Oil, Gold, Silver and Currency Update
| Asset | Latest verified reference | Timing or basis |
|---|---|---|
| Brent crude | $100.32/barrel; −1.89% | October 5 settlement |
| WTI crude | $89.43/barrel; −1.84% | October 5 settlement |
| Spot gold | $4,141.67/troy ounce | Retrieved early-morning dashboard snapshot |
| Spot silver | $61.104/troy ounce | Retrieved early-morning dashboard snapshot |

| MCX Silver December futures | ₹2,26,240 per kg; +0.16% | October 5 snapshot, 11:29 PM IST |
| USD/INR | ₹96.2925 per dollar | October 5 onshore close |

The international dashboard’s timezone is not clearly identified, so its quotes are snapshots rather than synchronised live prices. MCX figures are available previous-night quotes, not verified final settlements. Fresh October 6 onshore currency and MCX trading had not begun at the cut-off.
Lower crude is helpful for India’s import bill. At around $100, however, Brent still leaves businesses exposed to high fuel and transport costs.
Global News and Geopolitical Risks
The oil market is balancing improving exports and reserve-release plans against continuing conflict-related shipping risks.
Monday’s decline should not be read as proof that the supply problem is solved. The route taken by a cargo, insurance costs and delivery delays can matter even when more barrels are available.
Reuters reported lower oil alongside recovering Middle East exports and the G7 supply initiative. In Europe, France’s fiscal worries remain a separate source of uncertainty.
For Indian companies, the practical questions are whether raw-material costs ease, whether freight normalises, and whether customers continue spending.
SEBI Update: Confirmed Measures Versus Reported Proposals
Investor-awareness initiative
SEBI’s October 5 release announced its investor-awareness campaign under Project Jagrook, the MUST initiative and other education measures.
This follows the October 1 circular on investor-awareness messages on broker apps and websites. The direct effect is on investor communication; it does not change a company’s earnings.
Derivatives settlement review
Reuters reported, citing sources, that SEBI may shift derivatives settlement towards a last-30-minute volume-weighted average price and away from closing-auction-based settlement.
This is a reported proposed change, not a confirmed rule effective today. If implemented, it could alter expiry hedging and closing-price behaviour. Traders should wait for the final circular and exchange implementation dates.
Two Growth Stocks to Study: Polycab and Coforge
These are research watchlist names, not buy calls. Their Q1 FY27 results cover the quarter ended June 2026; they are not newly announced results today.
1. Polycab India: Growth With a Margin Check
Reported consolidated Q1 FY27 numbers were:
- Revenue: ₹8,209.7 crore, up 39% year-on-year.
- Net profit: ₹796.7 crore, up 33%.
- EBITDA: ₹1,136.2 crore, up 32.5%.
- EBITDA margin: 13.8%, lower by 70 basis points.
The appeal is exposure to wiring, electrification and infrastructure demand. The margin decline deserves attention: higher sales do not automatically mean each rupee of revenue earns more profit.
Technical reference: The NSE historical row carried by FT showed an October 5 close of ₹8,107, with a ₹7,980.50–₹8,186 range. Rounded reference zones are ₹7,980–₹8,000 below and ₹8,185–₹8,200 above.
A sustained move above the recent high would be more useful than a brief spike. For longer-term research, examine cash generation, working capital and whether margins stabilise.
Polycab India – Official Financial Results and Investor Updates
2. Coforge: Look Beyond the Headline Growth
Coforge’s official Q1 FY27 release reported:
- Revenue: ₹5,527.7 crore, up 49% in rupee terms.
- Dollar revenue: $592.2 million, up about 33%.
- PAT: ₹518.6 crore, up 110%, as reported by the company.
- EBIT margin: 16%.
- Next-12-month signed order book: $2.23 billion.
The Encora acquisition contributed to the larger business. Separate acquired revenue from organic growth before treating the headline increase as the underlying run rate.
Technical reference: The October 5 historical row showed ₹1,852, up 1.42%, with a ₹1,793.80–₹1,888 trading range. That gives rounded support near ₹1,790–₹1,800 and resistance near ₹1,888–₹1,900.
The earnings story is worth studying, but valuation, integration costs and customer spending still matter. A strong order book becomes valuable when contracts turn into profitable revenue and cash.

IPO Updates for October 6
According to Zerodha’s available calendar:
- Paramount Syntex: ₹119–₹127; closes today.
- TNA Solutions: ₹66–₹70; closes today.
- Acme India Industries: ₹186–₹196; closes today.
- R.K. Fashion Accessories: ₹77–₹82; remains open through October 7.
- Nityas Gems and Jewellery: subscription closed October 5; listing scheduled October 8.
- Vishal Nirmiti: subscription closed October 5; listing scheduled October 8.
- Reliance Jio: dates remain marked “to be announced”.
For SME offers, examine trading liquidity and lot size as carefully as the business. Check the prospectus, cash flow and use of proceeds. A grey-market premium is neither an official price nor an assured listing gain.

Short-Term and Long-Term Investment View
For short-term traders
Let the opening range form before deciding whether the recovery has strength. A higher opening followed by repeated selling is different from an index holding its gains while more stocks join the move.
Plan the exit before entry. Position size should reflect the amount you can afford to lose, particularly around policy announcements. Avoid increasing exposure simply to recover a previous loss.
For long-term investors
Keep the focus on the business and the price paid for it. Polycab and Coforge illustrate why the details matter: margin trends and acquisition contributions can change how headline growth should be read.
Compare earnings growth with cash flow, debt and valuation. Staggered purchases can reduce dependence on one entry price, but they do not protect against a poor business or an excessive valuation.
Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points
- Opening bias is mildly positive, based on the available overnight GIFT reading and higher US closes; refresh morning quotes before trading.
- Nifty’s ability to hold 22,500 matters more than the first few minutes. Sustained buying would improve confidence in Monday’s recovery.
- The rebound still needs confirmation. Rising VIX makes a smooth, one-way session less certain.
- Stock selection may matter more than sector labels. Weak Indian ADRs show why a record Nasdaq close is not enough to assume broad IT strength.
- Oil and the approaching RBI decision can interrupt the recovery. A conditional outlook is more useful than a fixed intraday target.
