Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today, October 5: Can Nifty Recover After the Long Weekend?
A better Friday on Wall Street gives Indian shares something to work with after the long weekend. But the opening setup is still far from comfortable.
Nifty returns at 22,421.95, following another weak domestic session. Oil has opened higher after fresh reports of attacks on Saudi energy facilities. Monday therefore begins with competing signals: overseas equities offer some encouragement, while energy costs remain a worry.
This Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today uses October 1 for Indian cash-market data and October 2 for US and European closes. Friday was an Indian market holiday.
Timing note: At this early cut-off, a fresh Monday GIFT Nifty quote and most Asian cash-market readings were not yet verified. Older readings are clearly dated below.
Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: Previous Session Post-Market Summary — October 1, 2026
Thursday, October 1, was the last Indian equity trading session before the October 2 Gandhi Jayanti holiday and the weekend. Markets ended lower, with Nifty closing below 22,450.
| Market indicator | October 1 closing data | Key takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,421.95 — down 198.50 points (0.88%) | Closed below 22,500 as selling continued. |
| Sensex | 71,909.70 — down 570.59 points (0.79%) | Finished below 72,000. |
| Bank Nifty | 54,450.75 — down 182.30 points (0.33%) | Banks declined less than the headline indices. |
| Bank Nifty intraday range | 54,066.60–55,091.45 | A wide trading range reflected sharp swings. |
| India VIX | 14.45 — up 7.15% | Expected volatility increased. |
| Nifty Put-Call Ratio | 0.77, versus 0.79 previously | Put OI remained below Call OI; this alone does not predict direction. |
| FII activity — provisional | Net selling of ₹9,484.22 crore | Foreign institutional selling remained heavy. |
| DII activity — provisional | Net buying of ₹10,041.84 crore | Domestic institutions provided substantial buying support. |
| Combined FII–DII net flow | ₹557.62 crore net buying | Calculated from the two provisional institutional figures. |
| Nifty IT | Up approximately 2.2% | IT was a bright spot during the weak session. |
| Infosys | Up 4.02% | Among the prominent IT gainers. |
| TCS | Up 1.43% | Contributed to IT-sector strength. |
| HCL Technologies | Up 1.38% | Also finished higher. |
| Notable laggards | Maruti Suzuki, M&M and Tata Steel | Auto and metal names faced selling pressure. |
Levels to Carry Into the Next Session
These are technical reference zones based on the completed session, not live prices or guaranteed turning points.
| Index | Support | Resistance |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,200; then 22,000 | 22,600; then 22,800 |
The technical setup remained weak despite a recovery from the day’s low. A sustained move above resistance would be needed to improve the near-term picture.
Session takeaway: Strong domestic buying and gains in IT stocks could not offset the broader selling pressure. Elevated oil prices, higher global bond yields and persistent foreign outflows kept investors cautious.
Global Cues: US and European Markets Rebound
| Index | October 2 close | Daily move |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones | 51,176.96 | +250.40; +0.49% |
| S&P 500 | 7,722.72 | +56.27; +0.73% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 27,190.86 | +319.27; +1.19% |
| STOXX Europe 600 | 630.95 | +0.70% |
| Germany DAX | 25,222.06 | +1.12% |
| UK FTSE 100 | 10,461.95 | +0.32% |
| France CAC 40 | 7,897.19 | +0.79% |
US closing figures are supported by the Wall Street closing report; European closes are from Qatar News Agency.
Why Did Wall Street Rise?
US payrolls increased by 29,000, below the 90,000 expected in a Reuters poll. The weaker report reduced expectations of another immediate Federal Reserve rate increase and helped equities recover.
That offers some relief for Indian shares. However, softer jobs can also raise questions about demand.
For IT exporters, lower rate expectations can help valuations, while weaker client spending would work in the opposite direction. A rising Nasdaq alone is therefore not enough to judge the outlook for Indian IT.
European shares also recovered on Friday. Those positive closes provide a better overseas starting point, though Monday must now absorb the weekend’s energy news.

Asian Markets and GIFT Nifty — October 5, 2026
Morning check: around 7:40 AM IST. GIFT Nifty’s latest available timestamp is 7:35 AM IST. Other readings below are provider snapshots and may be delayed.
| Market | Latest available reading | Quick takeaway |
| GIFT Nifty | 22,645.00 — up 34 points (+0.15%) | Positive opening cue; quote timestamp: 7:35 AM IST. |
| Japan Nikkei 225 — indicative/derived | 70,012.00 — up 2.49% | Japan leads the gains as lower Fed hike expectations support sentiment. |
| Australia ASX 200 | 8,718.30 — up 0.42% | Australian equities trade higher alongside the broader recovery. |
| Hong Kong Hang Seng — indicative/derived | 23,865.00 — down 0.45% | The indicative reading is weaker; do not label this as the cash index quote. |
| Shanghai Composite | Closed for holiday | 3,842.19 is the September 30 reference, not a fresh trading level. |
| South Korea KOSPI | Closed for holiday | No fresh cash-market move today. |
GIFT Nifty data comes from Equitypandit; Reuters confirms the China and South Korea holidays and the improvement in regional sentiment following softer US jobs data.
GIFT Nifty clarification: The +34-point change is against the provider’s previous GIFT close of 22,611. It is not a forecast of a 34-point Nifty cash-market gap-up. Futures premiums and different reference closes affect that comparison.
Commodity Markets — Latest Available Snapshot
International prices are in US dollars. These dashboard readings were retrieved during this check; the provider’s displayed clock does not clearly identify its timezone.
| Commodity | Latest available price | Change / market reading |
| Brent crude — December futures, indicative | $101.40/barrel | Down 0.83%; oil has eased from its earlier rise. |
| WTI crude — November futures, indicative | $90.02/barrel | Down 1.20%; lower oil offers some relief to Indian markets. |
| Spot gold | $4,160.24/troy ounce | Up 0.47%. |
| Gold — December futures, indicative | $4,188.67/troy ounce | Up 0.63%. |
| Spot silver | $61.4325/troy ounce | Up 1.73%. |
| Silver — December futures, indicative | $61.773/troy ounce | Up 2.25%; outperforming gold in this snapshot. |
Spot and futures prices are different instruments, so use their labels when publishing.
Oil’s earlier gains reversed as improving Middle East exports and the planned G7 reserve release eased immediate supply concerns. Geopolitical risks remain.
MCX Gold and Silver — Available Reference Only
Fresh October 5 MCX prices are not available before the morning session. The pages checked still display October 1 timestamps; these figures should not be published as today’s live rates or the latest confirmed settlement.
| MCX contract | Available quoted price | Source timestamp |
| Gold December futures | ₹1,50,250 per 10 grams | Page dated October 1, 10:37 PM IST |
| Silver December futures | ₹2,25,545 per kg | October 1, 11:29 PM IST |
Indian ADR and GDR Updates
Friday’s overseas Indian-stock performance was less cheerful than the headline US indices:
- Infosys ADR: $11.04, down 2.73%; later after-hours reference $11.06.
- HDFC Bank ADR: $22.34, down 2.66%; later after-hours reference $22.50.
- Reliance Industries GDR, London RIGD: $49.10, up 0.51%, at the October 2 close.
ADRs and GDRs represent shares traded overseas. Currency changes, depositary ratios and different trading hours mean their percentage moves will not necessarily repeat in India.
Infosys and HDFC Bank deserve attention at the opening, without assuming their Friday overseas losses dictate Monday’s domestic close.
Weekend News: Energy Risks Return
Reuters reported that the Houthis claimed missile and drone attacks on Saudi Aramco sites. Early Monday oil prices rose on concern about supply. The report does not establish the size of any lasting production loss.
Two other developments matter:
- OPEC+ kept November production targets unchanged.
- Iran maintained that reopening Hormuz depends on its conditions being met. A confirmed agreement remained absent from the report reviewed.
For India, the practical concern is how long expensive oil persists. Airlines, transport businesses and companies using petroleum-based inputs face cost pressure if the rise lasts.
Domestic Events This Week
The RBI policy decision is due October 7. A Reuters poll expected a rate increase, but that remains a forecast—not an announced decision.
TCS results are scheduled for October 8, bringing the next earnings season into focus. Management commentary on client spending will matter alongside the headline profit number.
Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex Trading Levels
Nifty 50
- Support: 22,266, followed by the broader 22,200 area.
- Lower reference: 22,000.
- Resistance: 22,567–22,600, followed by 22,800.
- RSI: 22.57, an oversold reading.
Bank Nifty
- Support: 54,145 and 53,903.
- Resistance: 54,928 and 55,170.
These are published technical references.
Oversold means prices have fallen sharply relative to recent movement. It does not put a floor under the market.
A rebound becomes more useful when it holds beyond the opening hour and more stocks participate. Otherwise, traders may simply be seeing a short-lived recovery within a falling market.
Sensex
Using October 1’s range, our rounded price references are:
- Support: 71,250–71,300.
- Resistance: 72,550–72,600.
- Intermediate psychological level: 72,000.
These are previous-range watch zones, not guaranteed targets.
Open Interest, PCR and India VIX
The last published Nifty weekly options snapshot shows:
- Largest Call OI strike: 23,000.
- Next Call concentrations: 22,700 and 22,800.
- Strongest fresh Call writing: 22,500.
- Largest Put OI and strongest fresh Put writing: 22,300.
- Next Put concentration: 22,200.
- Reported PCR: 0.77, versus 0.79 previously.
- India VIX: 14.45, up 7.15%.
Bank Nifty’s reported largest monthly Call concentration was at 56,000.
Open interest measures outstanding positions. It cannot, by itself, identify whether traders are buying protection, selling options or building spreads.
The useful opening check is whether those positions survive. Put unwinding near support would weaken that support argument. Call unwinding alongside rising prices could accompany a recovery.
OI data note: Absolute quantities are omitted because the retrieved report’s units were not independently reconciled with the exchange chain.
Moneycontrol — Trade Setup for October 5, 2026
FII and DII: Domestic Buying Is Cushioning the Fall
October 1 provisional cash-market figures show:
- FII net selling: ₹9,484.22 crore.
- DII net buying: ₹10,041.84 crore.
- Combined net buying: ₹557.62 crore, calculated from those figures.
The combined number was positive, yet the index fell. That is not a contradiction.
Institutional flows cover only part of trading. Purchases may also be concentrated in different stocks from those facing selling.
A more useful question for this week is whether foreign selling moderates over several sessions. One day’s domestic buying cannot answer it.
New SEBI Update: Project Jagrook Begins Its Next Phase
SEBI’s October 1 circular covers investor-awareness messages on broker websites and trading apps under Project Jagrook.
According to the published implementation details:
- October 5–31: broker websites must display awareness messages alongside existing risk disclosures.
- During October: displaying the awareness messages on trading apps is voluntary.
- From November 1: apps must alternate the prescribed awareness messages and risk disclosures on their landing pages.
The direct effect is more visible information when investors use trading platforms. It is not, by itself, a reason to expect a change in company earnings or index direction.
Two Growth Stocks for Today’s Research List
1. Bharat Electronics: Sales Growth Is Ahead of Profit Growth
BEL’s official Q1 FY27 release reported:
- Revenue: ₹5,533.06 crore, up 25.27%.
- Profit before tax: ₹1,402.83 crore, up 8.81%.
- Profit after tax: ₹1,048.33 crore, up 8.17%.
The gap between sales growth and profit growth deserves attention. A larger business does not automatically mean better margins.
For the fundamental outlook, examine execution of defence-electronics orders, customer collections and the profitability of the work delivered. Valuation should be judged against repeatable earnings, not geopolitical excitement.
Technical view: The provider’s October 1 historical row records ₹383.10, down 1.34%, with a ₹378.65–₹386.15 range.
That gives a near-term support reference around ₹379 and recovery hurdles around ₹386, then ₹391, the September 30 high. These are our rounded price-action references.
Bharat Electronics (BEL) — Official Q1 Results
2. Marico: Volume Growth Adds Weight to the Earnings Story
Marico’s Q1 FY27 release reported:
- Revenue: ₹3,957 crore, up 23%.
- India underlying volume growth: 11%.
- International constant-currency growth: 15%.
- EBITDA and PAT growth: 25% each.
- EBITDA margin: 20.7%.
Volume growth matters because it indicates that customers bought more products, rather than revenue rising only through price increases.
There are still costs to monitor. Copra and edible-oil movements, advertising spending and currency changes can affect profitability. The next results need to show whether the momentum has continued.
Technical view: The October 1 historical row shows ₹781.35, down 0.59%, after trading between ₹766.25 and ₹791.
Our near-term references are ₹766 on the downside and ₹791–₹799 on recovery. Strong quarterly growth has not prevented recent share-price weakness.

IPO Updates: Issues Closing and Opening Today
The available Zerodha calendar lists:

- Vishal Nirmiti: ₹208–₹220; closes October 5.
- EverestIMS Technologies: ₹80–₹85; closes October 5.
- Omara Ventures India: ₹296–₹311; closes October 5.
- Dove Soft: ₹104–₹111; closes October 5.
- R.K. Fashion Accessories: ₹77–₹82; opens October 5, closes October 7.
- TNA Solutions and Acme India Industries: remain open until October 6.
The calendar shows October 8 as the scheduled listing date for Nityas and Vishal Nirmiti.
Before applying, compare the asking valuation with listed peers and read how the money will be used.
SME issues need extra attention to trading liquidity and application size. An unofficial grey-market premium is not an assured return.

|---|---|---|
| Brent crude | $103.06/barrel; +0.79% | Reuters, October 5 at 3:32 AM IST |
| WTI crude | $91.57/barrel; +0.50% | Same timestamp |
| Spot gold | $4,144.93/oz | Retrieved early-session provider quote |

| Spot silver | $60.753/oz | Retrieved early-session provider quote |
| Silver futures, December | $61.055/oz | Provider-derived quote |
| MCX gold, December | ₹1,50,250/10g | Available October 1 provider snapshot |
| MCX silver, December | ₹2,25,545/kg | October 1, 11:29 PM snapshot |
| USD/INR | ₹96.31 per dollar | October 1 reported onshore close |
Oil prices have an explicit Reuters timestamp. International metals, MCX and currency references come from the respective retrieved price pages and closing report.
The metals dashboard does not clearly identify its displayed time as IST. Those readings are retrieval snapshots, not a claim of an exchange-verified 5:30 AM price.
The available MCX pages still show October 1 data. A newer completed-session figure was not independently verified, so these should not be labelled today’s live prices. A fresh onshore rupee quote is also pending.
Short-Term and Long-Term Approach
For Short-Term Traders
An overseas rally can produce an opening bounce even when the domestic trend remains weak. The first hour should help show whether demand lasts.
- Compare advancing stocks with declining stocks.
- Check whether banks and other large index constituents move together.
- Decide an exit condition before entering.
- Size positions for possible gaps and fast reversals.
Buying simply because an index has fallen for several days can be expensive if the selling continues.
For Long-Term Investors
A lower share price is a starting point for research, not proof of a bargain.
BEL and Marico offer different businesses to examine. For either, compare earnings quality, cash generation and valuation before deciding whether the price is attractive.
Spreading purchases can reduce dependence on one entry date. It cannot protect a poor investment thesis. Money needed soon should not depend on a quick market recovery.
Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points
- A rebound is possible after Friday’s US gains, but fresh GIFT Nifty and Asian readings are needed before assigning an opening direction.
- Nifty needs to defend the 22,200 area to avoid another deterioration in its short-term setup.
- 22,600 is the first broader recovery test, followed by 22,800 if buying holds.
- Banks need to participate in any recovery. A bounce driven by only a few shares would be less convincing.
- Oil and RBI expectations may keep trading unsettled. Treat early strength as provisional until price and market breadth support it.
