Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today October 1, 2026: Can Nifty Hold 22,500?
October begins with a familiar question for Dalal Street: will buying at lower levels finally last beyond the afternoon?
The Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today starts with Nifty at 22,620.45, a firmer banking index and another large round of foreign selling. Overnight, the Dow fell sharply, Nasdaq edged higher and crude gained again.
The opening setup is cautious. Banks offer some support, but the wider market still needs evidence that sellers are losing control.
Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: September 30, 2026: Important Post-Market Summary
Indian markets ended Wednesday with Nifty and Sensex lower, while Bank Nifty gained. Banking strength helped cushion the market, but the benchmarks failed to retain their intraday recovery.
| Market indicator | September 30 closing data | Key takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,620.45; −95.75 points (−0.42%) | Closed below 22,650 after giving up its recovery |
| Sensex | 72,480.29; −48.78 points (−0.07%) | Almost flat, with selective banking gains limiting losses |
| Bank Nifty | 54,633.05; +373.10 points (+0.69%) | Outperformed the main benchmarks |
| India VIX | 13.49; +0.58% | Expected volatility edged higher |
| Nifty PCR | 0.79, versus 0.91 previously | Reported options positioning turned more Call-heavy |
| Largest Nifty Call OI strike | 23,000 | An overhead level to monitor |
| Largest Nifty Put OI strike | 22,500 | An important options support reference |
| FII cash-market activity* | Approximately ₹10,148.4 crore net selling | Foreign selling remained heavy |
| DII cash-market activity* | Approximately ₹11,271.7 crore net buying | Domestic institutions absorbed substantial selling |
| Combined FII–DII flow* | Approximately ₹1,123.3 crore net buying | Calculated from the reported provisional figures |
| September Nifty performance | −6.1% | Second consecutive monthly decline |
| September Sensex performance | −5.8% | Weak global conditions weighed on the month |
Session takeaway: Banks showed relative strength, but Nifty’s weak finish left the recovery unconfirmed. The 22,500 Put-OI concentration and 23,000 Call-OI concentration provide useful reference points for the next session.
Why Did the Recovery Fade?
Nifty traded above 22,800 during the session, but late selling pulled it back. Banking and media shares attracted buying, while metals and pharmaceuticals weighed on the market.
Broader shares held up better: the reported midcap index finished slightly higher and smallcaps gained around 0.3%.
This was not a session in which every part of the market fell together. Still, repeated failures to retain intraday gains suggest that traders should wait for stronger confirmation before calling a lasting recovery.
Global Cues: US and European Markets
| Index | September 30 close/reference | Daily change |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones | 50,906.05 | −443.87; −0.86% |
| S&P 500 | 7,651.54 | −19.30; −0.25% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 26,861.06 | +63.52; +0.24% |
| Germany DAX* | 25,199.19 | −200.02; −0.79% |
| UK FTSE 100* | 10,606.00 | −30.71; −0.29% |
| France CAC 40 | 7,964.51 | −71.36; −0.89% |
| Euro Stoxx 50* | 6,267.95 | −52.31; −0.83% |
A softer-than-expected US inflation report initially helped sentiment. However, high bond yields remained an obstacle, and Wall Street finished mixed.
Europe’s STOXX 600 fell about 0.5%, ending its first losing month in six. Energy costs and borrowing-rate concerns continued to trouble investors.
For Indian companies, expensive borrowing can squeeze investment plans. Attractive dollar yields can also make overseas investors more selective about emerging-market equities.

Asian Markets and GIFT Nifty — October 1, 2026
Morning check around 7:45 AM IST. GIFT Nifty’s latest verified timestamp is 7:31 AM IST.
| Market | Latest available reading | Status / quick takeaway |
| GIFT Nifty | 22,580.00; −75.50 points (−0.33%) | 7:31 AM IST: indicates a weaker opening setup |
| Japan Nikkei 225* | 68,334.00; +2.37% | Provider-derived quote; Japan outperforms |
| South Korea KOSPI | 6,832.37; −0.08% | Nearly flat, recovering from earlier weakness |
| Taiwan Weighted | 47,995.39; +0.12% | Modest gains |
| Australia ASX 200 | 8,651.20; −1.57% | Weakest among these active markets |
| Hong Kong Hang Seng | Closed; previous close 24,613.27 | National Day holiday; no fresh cash-market quote |
| Shanghai Composite | Closed; previous close 3,842.19 | National Day holiday; no fresh cash-market quote |
GIFT Nifty’s morning range: 22,578.50–22,640.00, with an opening reading of 22,632.50. At the verified snapshot, it was trading close to the session low.
Japan’s earlier gains were supported by semiconductor shares, while financial stocks lagged. This helps explain why strength in Nikkei does not necessarily mean the whole Asian market is bullish.

MCX data note: The Dhan pages still display these prices, but their timestamp currently shows an invalid date. Treat them only as carried-forward references—not verified final settlements or fresh October 1 prices. MCX morning trading has not started at this check.
Market takeaway: GIFT Nifty points to a weak opening, while Asian markets are mixed. Crude is broadly steady as traders weigh US-Iran talks against recovering Middle East exports. Silver is firmer in the available international snapshot.
Indian ADR and GDR: Overnight Stock Signals
- Infosys ADR: regular close $10.76, up 1.13%. The available after-hours quote was $10.78, up 0.19% from that close.
- HDFC Bank ADR: regular close $22.34, down 1.33%. After-hours reference $22.45, up 0.49% from the regular close.
- Reliance Industries GDR, London RIGD: $49.00, down 0.81%, at the September 30 London close.
Infosys offers a positive overseas reference, while HDFC Bank and Reliance were weaker in their regular sessions.
These moves should be read alongside domestic news and currency changes. They are not exact forecasts of where the Indian shares will open.
Global News: Oil Remains the Main Geopolitical Risk
Oil rose as US-Iran talks remained stalled and US fuel inventories tightened. Diplomatic efforts continued, but the report reviewed contained no confirmed breakthrough. Recovering Gulf exports offered some relief on the supply side.
For Indian investors, watch:
- Whether export recovery continues.
- Whether crude gains persist after the contract rollover.
- Fuel-sensitive sectors such as aviation and paints.
- The rupee’s response once domestic currency trading opens.
A political headline can move prices immediately. Its effect on company profits depends on how long the resulting cost change lasts.
Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex Support and Resistance
Nifty 50: Watch the 22,500 Zone
- Support: 22,593, then 22,543.
- Broader support zone: 22,550–22,500.
- Resistance: 22,757, then 22,807.
- Larger recovery hurdle: 23,000.
- RSI: 25.27.
Bank Nifty: Follow-Through Matters
- Support: 54,280 and 54,054.
- Resistance: 55,015 and 55,242.
These are published technical references. Nifty’s low RSI indicates an oversold condition, but it does not guarantee a rebound.
Sensex: A Simple Price-Action Map
Using the previous session’s reported range, rounded watch zones are:
- Support: 72,350–72,400.
- Resistance: 73,000–73,100.
These are our rounded previous-range references, not independently issued analyst targets.
The useful test is whether an index can hold a reclaimed level after the opening excitement fades. A brief move above resistance followed by immediate selling offers little comfort.
September 30, 2026: Important Post-Market Summary
Indian markets ended Wednesday with Nifty and Sensex lower, while Bank Nifty gained. Banking strength helped cushion the market, but the benchmarks failed to retain their intraday recovery.
| Market indicator | September 30 closing data | Key takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,620.45; −95.75 points (−0.42%) | Closed below 22,650 after giving up its recovery |
| Sensex | 72,480.29; −48.78 points (−0.07%) | Almost flat, with selective banking gains limiting losses |
| Bank Nifty | 54,633.05; +373.10 points (+0.69%) | Outperformed the main benchmarks |
| India VIX | 13.49; +0.58% | Expected volatility edged higher |
| Nifty PCR | 0.79, versus 0.91 previously | Reported options positioning turned more Call-heavy |
| Largest Nifty Call OI strike | 23,000 | An overhead level to monitor |
| Largest Nifty Put OI strike | 22,500 | An important options support reference |
| FII cash-market activity* | Approximately ₹10,148.4 crore net selling | Foreign selling remained heavy |
| DII cash-market activity* | Approximately ₹11,271.7 crore net buying | Domestic institutions absorbed substantial selling |
| Combined FII–DII flow* | Approximately ₹1,123.3 crore net buying | Calculated from the reported provisional figures |
| September Nifty performance | −6.1% | Second consecutive monthly decline |
| September Sensex performance | −5.8% | Weak global conditions weighed on the month |
* Institutional-data note: FII/DII numbers are rounded provisional figures reported by 5paisa. Broker summaries differed during verification; these figures have not been independently reconciled with the final exchange file.
Session takeaway: Banks showed relative strength, but Nifty’s weak finish left the recovery unconfirmed. The 22,500 Put-OI concentration and 23,000 Call-OI concentration provide useful reference points for the next session.
Open Interest, PCR and India VIX
The published weekly Nifty snapshot shows:
- Largest Call OI: 23,000.
- Other heavy Call strikes: 22,900 and 22,700.
- Largest Put OI: 22,500.
- Other heavy Put strikes: 22,600 and 22,700.
- Strongest fresh Call writing: 22,900.
- Strongest fresh Put writing: 22,500.
- Reported PCR: 0.79, down from 0.91.
- India VIX: 13.49.
For Bank Nifty’s monthly chain, the largest reported Call concentration was at 56,000.
Open interest counts outstanding positions. It does not tell us whether every position is a directional bet; many are hedges or parts of spreads.
PCR also needs a consistent expiry and calculation method. Use the reported ratio as context and refresh the relevant exchange chain before trading. Old positions can unwind quickly.

FII and DII Flows: Buying Does Not Guarantee a Green Index
The provisional figures reported by 5paisa show foreign selling of roughly ₹10,148.4 crore and domestic buying of ₹11,271.7 crore.
That gives a calculated combined net purchase of approximately ₹1,123.3 crore.
Broker summaries differed during verification. These are therefore attributed provisional figures; the exchange file was not independently reconciled.
Why did Nifty fall despite combined net buying by these two groups? Their activity is only part of the market. The stocks they buy, the timing of those orders and trades by other participants all affect the index.
SEBI Developments and Their Practical Impact
The September 24 SEBI board decisions included changes to the settlement-proceedings framework and approval of a common advertising code for regulated entities.
The settlement changes concern how regulatory cases may be resolved. They should not be confused with the settlement cycle for buying and selling shares.
For readers, the practical implications are:
- More consistent advertising requirements across covered intermediaries.
- Changes to the calculation and handling of regulatory settlement amounts.
- A need to check final notifications and effective dates before treating a board approval as an operational rule.
The reported settlement regulations take effect after the specified notification period, not automatically on October 1.
Two Fresh Stocks to Research
1. Indian Hotels: Growth Backed by Room Revenue and Expansion
IHCL’s Q1 FY27 release reported:
- Consolidated revenue: ₹2,419 crore, up 15%.
- EBITDA: ₹753 crore.
- EBITDA margin: 31.1%, up 80 basis points.
- Domestic like-for-like RevPAR growth: 14%.
- Management-fee income growth: 26%.
RevPAR means revenue per available room. It helps investors judge the combined effect of occupancy and room pricing.
The business has several growth sources, but room rates cannot rise indefinitely. Watch occupancy, new-hotel costs and whether expansion converts into cash flow.
Technical outlook: the NSE historical series shows a September 30 close of ₹728.65, up 2%, within a ₹713–₹736.90 range.
For a simple watchlist, ₹713 is the previous-low reference and ₹737 the immediate hurdle. A move above the latter needs follow-through. A weak broader market can still interrupt a stock’s recovery.

2. Dixon Technologies: Revenue Growth, With a One-Time Profit Boost
Dixon’s Q1 FY27 reported revenue from operations was ₹15,547.66 crore, up 21.13%. Reported net profit was ₹663.42 crore.
But the headline requires context: results included a ₹519 crore fair-value gain on its Aditya Infotech stake. The results report said adjusted shareholder profit declined about 3% to ₹218 crore.
Dixon merits attention for revenue growth, but the headline profit increase should not be treated as recurring earnings growth. Monitor manufacturing margins, working capital and collection of incentive receivables.
Technical outlook: the NSE historical series shows ₹13,100, down 1.13%, at the reported session low. The high was ₹13,425.
₹13,100 is a near-term reference, with ₹13,250 and ₹13,425 as recovery hurdles. These levels describe recent trading, not promised targets.

Other Ongoing Issues
EverestIMS Technologies, Omara Ventures India and Dove Soft remain open until October 5 in the available calendar.

| USD/INR | ₹95.83 per dollar | September 30 onshore close |
Sources distinguish international spot prices, futures contracts and domestic quotes.
Rollover matters: November Brent expired at $103.50. December Brent near $98 does not mean oil suddenly fell by more than $5 overnight.
The international metals page does not provide an unambiguous IST timestamp, so its figures are labelled retrieved overnight quotes. MCX and the onshore rupee market have not opened for October 1 at this cut-off.
The rupee strengthened from ₹95.98 to ₹95.83 on Wednesday, although it still weakened over September. A lower USD/INR number means a stronger rupee.
Short-Term and Long-Term Investment View
Short-Term: Remember the Long Weekend
NSE and BSE are closed on Friday, October 2, for Gandhi Jayanti. Positions carried beyond today face a longer period of overseas news before Indian cash trading resumes.
For traders:
- Watch whether banks retain their relative strength.
- Let the opening range form before acting.
- Decide position size and exit conditions in advance.
- Avoid treating an oversold reading as a standalone buy signal.
Long-Term: Focus on the Quality of Growth
IHCL and Dixon illustrate why investors should look beyond a headline.
Hotel growth needs support from occupancy and returns on expansion. Manufacturing growth needs healthy margins and cash collection.
Staggered investing can reduce dependence on one entry price, but it cannot remove market risk. Match equity exposure to the time available before the money is needed.
Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points
- The opening bias is cautious, pending a fresh GIFT Nifty reading and active Asian-market confirmation.
- Nifty’s 22,550–22,500 zone is the first major test. Failure to hold it would weaken the recovery case.
- A sustained move above 22,800 would improve sentiment, with 23,000 still an overhead options hurdle.
- Bank Nifty’s relative strength is worth watching, but the broader market needs participation beyond banks.
- Oil headlines and the long weekend may keep trading uneven. A recovery with improving breadth would be more convincing than an isolated opening bounce.
