Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today for November 5, 2026, showing GIFT Nifty above 24,300 and falling oil prices.

Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today, Nov 5: GIFT Nifty Above 24,300 as Oil Slides

Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: The quick picture

Nifty ended Wednesday at 23,960.60, just 39 points short of 24,000. Overnight, US and European shares rose while crude oil fell sharply. GIFT Nifty’s last verified reading was 24,385, pointing to a firm start for Indian shares. The actual opening price can still change when the pre-open session begins.

Oil is the headline global cue. Brent futures settled at $94.62 a barrel, down 8.7% on Wednesday. Traders are assessing whether the US midterm election result could increase pressure for a negotiated end to the Iran war. That is a market expectation; no peace agreement has been announced. Cheaper oil generally helps India because the country imports much of the crude it uses.

November 4, 2026: Indian market post-market summary

IndexCloseDay’s change
Nifty 5023,960.60+149.75 (+0.63%)
Sensex77,301.40+383.55 (+0.50%)
Bank Nifty55,913.60+373.55 (+0.67%)
Nifty Midcap 10059,505.50+1.55%
Nifty Smallcap 10019,026.40+2.00%
India VIX15.19−3.37%

The benchmarks rose for a fifth straight session. Nifty recovered from an intraday low of 23,696.15 and closed at its day’s high, just 39.40 points below 24,000. Smaller stocks did better than the headline indices.

  • Market breadth: 36 Nifty 50 stocks gained and 14 declined. In the Nifty 500, 410 rose, 89 fell and one was unchanged.
  • Strongest sectors: Nifty Media +5.15%, Realty +2.85% and Metal +2.80%. Nifty IT was the main weak spot at −1.50%.
  • Notable Nifty movers: BEL +4.71%, Adani Enterprises +4.47% and Titan +4.22% gained. TCS −2.52%, HCLTech −2.37% and Infosys −1.73% fell.
  • Institutional cash flows: FIIs were net buyers of ₹7,284.03 crore; DIIs were net sellers of ₹3,712.23 crore.

Takeaway: Buying spread beyond the large indices, but IT shares held back Nifty. The next session’s immediate test is whether Nifty can move above 24,000 and stay there after the opening volatility.

FII and DII data

Foreign institutional investors were net buyers of ₹7,284.03 crore in the NSE cash market on November 4. Domestic institutional investors were net sellers of ₹3,712.23 crore. The two figures together amount to roughly ₹3,571.80 crore of net buying. These are completed cash-market trades from Wednesday, not an indication of what either group will do today.

Global cues: US and European indices

MarketNovember 4 closeChange
Dow Jones53,356.12+3.03%
S&P 5007,688.62+1.58%
Nasdaq Composite25,736.51+1.44%
FTSE 10010,829.2+1.79%
DAX26,437.7+2.22%
CAC 408,177.9+1.96%

US stocks rallied after the midterm elections changed control of Congress. The Dow gained more than 1,500 points, helped by falling oil and a broad rise in shares. London, Frankfurt and Paris also closed higher. For Indian investors, these are encouraging overnight signals, though the opening mood can shift once Asian markets start their November 5 sessions.

Indian ADR and GDR update

  • Infosys ADR closed around $12.24, up 2.60%, in the November 4 US session.
  • HDFC Bank ADR was $24.33, up 5.55%, in the November 4 historical quote.
  • Reliance Industries’ London GDR, traded as RIGD, was shown at $55.20 in one November 4 end-of-day feed, against $53.30 on November 3. An exchange page showed an earlier, different intraday reading, so verify the final quote before using it for a trade.

ADRs and GDRs are overseas receipts linked to company shares. They can show how investors reacted while India was closed. Their dollar prices should not be compared directly with NSE share prices: currency moves, trading hours and the number of shares represented by each receipt all matter.

Global market cues

Asian markets and GIFT Nifty — November 5, 2026

Snapshot checked at 7:42 am IST.; the GIFT Nifty quote was stamped 7:30 am. These are moving, potentially delayed quotes.

MarketLatest level and moveQuick reading

Taiwan Taiex42,192.4, −1.76%Taiwan shares are under pressure.

GIFT Nifty needs two comparisons: it was down 70 points against its previous futures close of 24,374, yet stood about 343 points above Wednesday’s Nifty 50 cash close of 23,960.60. That still suggests a higher Indian open, but it does not fix the opening gap.

Commodities: Latest available quotes

The international futures quotes below were stamped around 7:18–7:19 am IST. The MCX figures are the last available November 4 trades at 11:55 pm IST, as the new local session had not yet provided a verified price on the MCX board.

Oil continued to soften after Wednesday’s sharp fall, a helpful cue for India’s import bill. Gold and silver were higher in the quoted overseas contracts. Refresh GIFT Nifty and the Asian board before publishing, especially with GIFT Nifty only just above 24,300 at this snapshot.

Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex levels to watch

These are reference zones based on Wednesday’s trading range, round numbers and options positioning. They are not fixed targets.

  • Nifty 50: The index closed at 23,960.60. 24,000 is the first test. If it holds above that level after the opening rush, traders may watch 24,200–24,250. On a pullback, 23,960, then 23,800, and Wednesday’s 23,696 low are useful reference points.
  • Bank Nifty: It closed at 55,913.60. Watch 56,000 first, followed by the 56,300–56,500 area if banks support the move. 55,500 and then 55,000 are broader downside zones.
  • Sensex: It finished at 77,301.40, after touching a high near 77,396. Watch 77,400 on the upside, then 77,700–78,000. On weakness, 77,300 and 76,600–76,800 offer reference areas.

A gap-up opening can cross several levels in seconds. Waiting to see where prices settle after the first 15–30 minutes often gives a clearer reading than reacting to the first tick.

Open interest, put-call ratio and India VIX

For the November 9 Nifty options expiry, a November 4, 3:40 pm IST option-chain snapshot showed an open-interest put-call ratio, or PCR, of 1.07. The feed showed the largest overall call open interest at 25,000 and put open interest at 23,000. Its max pain reading was 23,800. These describe existing option positions; none is a guaranteed destination for Nifty.

Open interest counts option positions still outstanding. PCR compares outstanding puts with calls. India VIX at 15.19 was lower on Wednesday; VIX estimates expected volatility, not whether the market will rise or fall. Options figures also depend on the expiry and strikes a provider includes, which is why PCR readings on different sites may vary.

Sensex expiry day setup — Thursday, November 5, 2026

Today is the weekly Sensex options expiry. So the option figures below are from Wednesday’s closing data

Trader referenceNovember 4 readingWhat to watch today
Sensex close77,301.40Opening position against Wednesday’s close
Wednesday’s high / low77,396.04 / 76,604.85A move beyond either end needs follow-through
Nov 5 expiry PCR (OI)1.05Refresh after trading begins
Max pain77,000Positioning reference, not a price target
Largest overall call / put OI80,000 / 76,000Broad option walls; nearer strikes matter intraday
77,300 ATM straddleAbout 617 pointsOption cost implies a wide move, not a forecast

The expiry figures come from November 4 end-of-day option data. The 77,000 put and 77,500–78,000 calls are more useful nearby areas to monitor than relying only on the largest overall OI strikes. Fresh writing or unwinding can change those levels quickly.

For the trading screen, 77,396–77,500 is the first upside zone. If Sensex holds above it after the opening volatility, 77,800–78,000 comes into view. On weakness, watch 77,300, then 77,000, with Wednesday’s 76,605 low as a wider reference. These levels are a reading of price and options positioning, not assured support or resistance.

Expiry-day option premiums can lose value rapidly as time runs out. A large opening gap can also make the first few minutes costly for option buyers who enter after premiums jump. Check the live BSE option chain, bid–ask spread and position size before trading, and set your maximum loss in advance.

Today’s Sensex expiry trade setup

Commodities and currency: Oil, MCX gold and silver

InstrumentLatest verified levelQuote basis
Brent crude futures$94.62Nov 4 US settlement, per barrel
WTI crude futures$88.12Nov 4 US settlement, per barrel
MCX gold, Dec 4 contract₹1,43,293Nov 4 last trade, per 10 g
MCX silver, Dec 4 contract₹1,87,580Nov 4 last trade, per kg
MCX crude, Nov 19 contract₹8,381Nov 4 last trade, per barrel

The MCX contract figures came from its 11:55 pm IST November 4 most-active-contracts board. They are last traded prices, which need not match an official settlement price. Fresh local prices require the new trading session. Internationally, Reuters reported spot silver around $52.23 an ounce during Wednesday’s trading, while a pre-dawn market board showed gold futures around $4,072 an ounce. These overseas quotes use different contracts and timestamps from the MCX figures.

The rupee’s last verified Indian-session close was around ₹94.64 per US dollar on November 4. The November 5 domestic currency session had not begun at this snapshot. Lower oil can ease pressure on India’s import bill, but dollar moves and foreign fund flows also affect the rupee.

Two Q2 growth businesses on the watchlist

INOX India: Sales and orders rise

INOX India reported Q2 FY27 revenue of ₹467 crore, up 26.6% from a year earlier. Profit after tax rose 7.8% to ₹66 crore. Its order backlog reached about ₹2,268 crore, while exports made up 60% of quarterly revenue. Orders across industrial gases, LNG and specialist cryogenic equipment give investors several businesses to follow. The slower growth in profit than in sales is a reason to keep watching margins.

The November 4 historical price feed showed a close around ₹1,948 and a wide ₹1,806–₹1,966 trading range. Another provider showed a different closing value, so check the exchange quote on your broker screen before dealing. A sustained move above ₹1,966 would show stronger follow-through; a slip below ₹1,870 would weaken the near-term rebound. These are observations from recent prices, not buy or sell instructions.

KEC International: Big order book, but profit needs attention

KEC International has a record order book of about ₹39,946 crore and year-to-date order intake above ₹13,500 crore. Yet its latest quarter was difficult: revenue fell to ₹5,468 crore from ₹6,092 crore, and consolidated profit declined to ₹30 crore from ₹161 crore a year earlier. Debt including acceptances stood around ₹7,793 crore at September-end. The order book offers work for future quarters; execution, margins and working capital will decide how much of that work turns into profit.

The November 4 historical feed placed KEC around ₹321 at the close, after trading between ₹299 and ₹323. A broker quote differed slightly on the exact close. For a technical watch, ₹323–₹335 is a nearby recovery area, while ₹299–₹300 marks the recent low. The longer-term case would look stronger if upcoming results show a recovery in profit as well as order intake.

IPO calendar and the SEBI rule update

IPO calendars were showing inconsistent versions this morning, so check the exchange notice, registrar and broker application page before acting. A current Zerodha calendar result listed the Antala Industries SME IPO through November 5, with a ₹62–₹66 price band and tentative November 11 listing. Zerodha’s Vedant Poly Fabs issue page showed that IPO closing on November 4, with allotment scheduled for November 5 and a tentative November 9 listing. Dates and allotment outcomes can change.

Zerodha IPO calendar

SEBI’s closing-auction changes are scheduled for December 7, 2026. Under the announced framework, the closing auction will run from 3:30 pm to 3:40 pm, and settlement prices for expiring derivatives will use a volume-weighted average from the last 30 minutes of regular trading. That will affect how expiry-day settlement prices are formed. It is not a new rule taking effect today.

Short-term and long-term investment approach

For short-term traders, the indicated opening gap deserves respect. Watch whether Nifty can hold 24,000 after the initial orders, whether banks take part, and whether crude stays near its lower levels. Decide position size and an exit level before entering a trade; an overnight futures quote alone is not a trading plan.

Long-term investors can look past one strong global session. What matters over several quarters is whether a company converts sales and orders into cash and profit. INOX India’s rising sales and KEC’s weaker quarterly earnings show why reading beyond the order-book headline matters. Buying in stages and keeping a diversified portfolio can reduce the risk of committing everything at one price.

Today’s market forecast: Five things to track

  1. A firm opening is indicated: GIFT Nifty’s last verified 24,385 reading is well above Wednesday’s Nifty close. Refresh the contract quote after its new session begins.
  2. Nifty’s first test is 24,000: A gap above it will mean more if the index holds that level after early volatility.
  3. Banks need to participate: Watch Bank Nifty around 56,000 to judge whether the rise has support beyond a few large shares.
  4. Oil remains the global trigger: Brent’s $94.62 settlement helps sentiment in India, but a fresh Iran-war headline could move crude quickly.
  5. Keep risk in view: Wednesday’s 15.19 India VIX and 1.07 Nifty options PCR describe the previous snapshot. Neither predicts today’s direction.
