Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today, October 13, 2026: Can Nifty Defend 22,300 as Oil Returns Above $106?
The Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today begins with an uncomfortable mix: higher oil, rising domestic inflation and a market that could not hold Monday’s early gains. Indian banking ADRs offer some encouragement, but Tuesday’s opening needs confirmation from fresh futures trading.
Nifty closed at 22,363.35, while Sensex ended at 71,924.68. Brent’s latest retrieved reference was back above $106 a barrel, keeping fuel costs and company margins in focus.
This is an early report. Indian closing prices refer to Monday, October 12. The Asian figures below are previous-session references, while GIFT Nifty reflects the completed overnight session.

US Treasury cash markets were closed for the holiday. Major US bank earnings and the coming inflation release remain important overseas triggers.

Quote timing: GIFT Nifty’s source shows 13 October, 7:46 AM. Asian quotes carry provider timestamps between 21:45 and 22:05; their timezone was not confirmed, so these have not been relabelled as IST. Nikkei and Hang Seng are marked “derived” by the provider.
What this means for Indian markets:
- GIFT Nifty: Its early range was 22,394.50–22,434.00, suggesting limited movement at the quoted time.
- Asian sentiment: Widespread declines suggest a cautious backdrop for the Indian opening.
- Opening signal: GIFT Nifty’s percentage change uses its own reference close. It should not be read as the exact expected gap in the Nifty cash index.

The source displays timestamps around 21:57–21:58, without a confirmed timezone in the retrieved table. Futures prices above are marked “derived” by the provider.
Market reading: Oil’s decline offers some relief, although Brent remains above $100. Silver is weaker than gold in this snapshot, while copper’s fall adds to the cautious mood.

Indian ADR and GDR Update
US regular-session closes on October 12:
- Infosys ADR: $10.83, up 0.93%.
- HDFC Bank ADR: $22.58, up 1.35%.
- ICICI Bank ADR: $28.05, up 0.57%.
- Wipro ADR: $1.70, unchanged.
Reliance Industries GDR, London RIGD: $48.20, down 0.10%, in the latest October 12 closing reference.
Banking ADRs offer a positive overseas cue. However, depositary receipts also reflect currency movements, different trading hours and receipt ratios. Their dollar prices are not direct targets for Indian shares.
Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex: Levels to Watch
The following are our observation levels, based on recent prices or the calculations explained below. They are not guaranteed turning points.
Nifty 50
- Latest close: 22,363.35.
- Immediate support reference: around 22,300, near Monday’s low.
- Lower reference: approximately 22,180, around the recent October 8 low.
- Recovery checkpoints: 22,500, followed by Monday’s high near 22,651.
Holding 22,300 could help buyers attempt another recovery. Returning above 22,500 and staying there would be more encouraging than a brief opening bounce.
Bank Nifty
- Latest close: 54,918.
- Immediate round-number checkpoint: 55,000.
- Lower observation zone: 54,500.
- Upper observation zone: 55,500.
These are deliberately rounded monitoring levels, not calculated pivot supports. Watch whether banks regain 55,000 and hold it. Repeated rejection would leave the recovery vulnerable.
Sensex
Using Monday’s high, low and close, conventional daily pivot calculations give:
- Central pivot: approximately 72,162.
- Supports: approximately 71,439 and 70,954.
- Resistances: approximately 72,647 and 73,370.
These are our calculations using the published session prices. The central pivot is the average of the previous high, low and close.
Open Interest, Put-Call Ratio and India VIX
The published October 12 derivatives review reported:
- Nifty PCR: 0.73, down from 1.14.
- Maximum weekly Call OI: 22,600 strike, approximately 1.76 crore on the publisher’s quantity basis.
- Maximum weekly Put OI: 22,000 strike, approximately 1.28 crore.
- Bank Nifty maximum monthly Put OI: 55,000 strike, approximately 11.79 lakh.
- India VIX: around 15.25.
PCR compares Put OI with Call OI. It cannot, by itself, tell us whether participants bought protection or sold options. Different expiry selections can also produce different ratios.
Check the expiry and units before comparing quantities with a broker terminal. Large Put OI at 22,000 does not guarantee a floor, and large Call positions can unwind quickly.

FII and DII Activity: Buying Support Without an Index Recovery
Domestic buying exceeded foreign selling by ₹1,336.54 crore, calculated from Monday’s provisional cash-market figures.
Yet Nifty still declined. Institutional net flows cover only part of market activity and do not mechanically determine the index’s direction.
For Tuesday, the useful question is whether foreign selling slows further and buying appears in heavyweight shares. One positive combined flow is insufficient to establish a lasting recovery.
Inflation, Oil and Global Developments
September inflation adds a domestic concern
India’s September CPI inflation was 5.54%, according to the government’s provisional release.
For households, higher inflation reduces spending power. For businesses, it can mean higher costs and greater difficulty passing those costs to customers.
Upcoming results deserve a closer reading of demand, pricing and margins. Revenue growth alone may hide pressure on profitability
Energy headlines remain unsettled
Oil rose again as attacks and supply concerns outweighed earlier hopes around a Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire. The proposed arrangement lacked clear confirmation from all sides.
For Indian businesses, the main channels are straightforward:
- Airlines: fuel-cost pressure.
- Paints and selected chemicals: input-cost risk.
- Import-heavy companies: exposure to both energy and currency movements.
- Energy producers: potentially better selling prices, depending on costs and policy.
A ceasefire announcement and an implemented agreement should be treated as different developments.
HCLTech Q2 Results: A Fresh IT Trigger
HCLTech reported Q2 FY27 revenue of ₹35,620 crore, up 3% sequentially and 11.5% year on year. Net income was ₹5,132 crore, up 21.2% year on year.
The company narrowed its FY27 constant-currency revenue growth guidance to 2.5%–4%, raising the lower end. Investors will assess that outlook alongside demand commentary and deal conversion.
This is a fresh September-quarter update, separate from the Q1 growth-stock reviews below. A higher profit figure does not automatically mean a positive share-price reaction; expectations matter too.
New SEBI Updates and Their Market Relevance
SEBI’s official list includes Portfolio Managers Regulations, 2026, dated October 12, with an effective date of April 1, 2027.
It also includes:
- October 10 amendments concerning research analysts, mutual funds and intermediaries.
- The October 7 Credit Risk-o-Meter disclosure initiative for debt securities.
The practical takeaway is to distinguish publication dates from implementation dates.
Portfolio-service providers and their clients should review the applicable provisions. The regulatory listing alone does not establish an immediate change to equity trading or expiry arrangements. Similarly, a bond-risk disclosure helps investors assess risk; it does not remove that risk.
Two Growth Businesses to Research: BEL and Persistent Systems
Today’s research watchlist moves beyond yesterday’s CG Power and Trent examples. These are businesses to study, not buy recommendations.
Q1 FY27 covers April–June 2026.
1. Bharat Electronics: Sales Growth Needs Profit Conversion
BEL’s official Q1 release reported:
- Revenue from operations: ₹5,533.06 crore, up 25.27%.
- Profit before tax: ₹1,402.83 crore, up 8.81%.
Revenue grew much faster than pre-tax profit. That makes the quality of growth worth checking: product mix, execution costs, cash collection and margins matter alongside the order opportunity.
Technical picture:
Monday’s NSE close was ₹373.90, up 1.56%, with a ₹370–₹375.20 range.
Our immediate observation levels are therefore ₹370 below and ₹375.20 above. The recent ₹378 area is another recovery checkpoint.
Outlook: Defence demand can support the business, but contract timing and valuation still affect investment returns. Sustained buying beyond recent highs would make the price recovery more convincing.
Bharat Electronics — Official Q1 FY27 Results
2. Persistent Systems: Growth With Currency and Acquisition Risks
Persistent’s consolidated Q1 FY27 results showed:
- Dollar revenue: $452.4 million, up 16.1% year on year.
- Rupee revenue: approximately ₹4,303.23 crore, up 29.1%.
- Net profit: approximately ₹483.04 crore, up 13.7%.
- EBIT margin: 16%.
- Total contract value booked: approximately $1.15 billion.
Rupee and dollar growth differ partly because of currency translation. Persistent also identified forex losses behind its sequential profit decline. Large deal bookings provide opportunity, but revenue arrives over the life of those contracts.
Technical picture:
Monday’s NSE close was ₹5,787, up 0.29%, following Friday’s 5.52% rise. The latest range gives observation levels of ₹5,736 below and ₹5,830 above.
Outlook: Watch large-deal execution and the Nagarro transaction. Monday’s report said Persistent had secured 94.04% of Nagarro’s share capital and voting rights. Integration costs and cash generation deserve attention alongside growth.

IPO Updates: Today’s Openings and Upcoming Issues

- HD Fire Protect — mainboard: October 13–15; ₹258–₹271; scheduled listing October 21.
- Vaibhav Vyapaar — SME: October 13–15; ₹51–₹54; scheduled listing October 21.

The refreshed calendar changes earlier references for Vaibhav’s price band and Ravita’s dates. Check the offer document before applying.
Compare operating cash flow, valuation and use of proceeds. Unofficial grey-market premiums do not assure listing gains, and SME shares can be difficult to exit when liquidity is thin.

The rupee’s recovery provides some relief for import costs. However, a stronger rupee can also moderate the rupee value of exporters’ overseas revenue. Company hedging arrangements determine how quickly that effect reaches earnings.
Short-Term and Long-Term Investment Approach
For short-term participants
- Let the opening range develop before judging direction.
- Check whether banks confirm any Nifty recovery.
- Match option data to the contract and expiry being traded.
- Keep position size within a defined loss limit.
- Remember that gaps can cause stop-loss execution at a worse price.
Monday showed why the opening mood alone is insufficient. A higher start needs continued buying, especially when oil and inflation are working against sentiment.
For long-term investors
- Review operating cash flow alongside reported profit.
- Compare growth expectations with the valuation paid.
- Check debt and acquisition funding.
- Consider spreading purchases when uncertainty is high and the investment case remains intact.
- Keep near-term spending money outside volatile equity positions.
A falling share price is not automatically a bargain. Equally, a weak index session does not mean every business has deteriorated. Separate changing business prospects from changing market sentiment.
Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points to Watch
- Opening bias is mildly positive but provisional: the overnight GIFT quote needs confirmation after the fresh morning session starts.
- Nifty’s first test is around 22,300: holding that area could support a recovery attempt towards 22,500.
- Banks need to regain 55,000: sustained strength there would improve confidence in a broader rebound.
- IT may remain stock-specific: HCLTech’s results and outlook could matter more than the Nasdaq’s overnight direction.
- Oil and inflation can limit enthusiasm: Brent above $106 and September CPI at 5.54% leave room for another volatile session.
