Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today, October 14: Can Nifty Hold 22,700 After the Rally?

Tuesday gave Dalal Street a welcome recovery. The question this morning is whether buyers can protect those gains when overnight cues are less encouraging.

Nifty reclaimed 22,700, helped by a sharp recovery in IT shares. But GIFT Nifty’s latest overnight reading suggests a softer start. For everyday investors, this is a session to watch whether buying continues rather than assume that one strong day has repaired the broader market.

Data note: Indian figures refer to 13 October. US and European readings cover their latest completed sessions.

Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: Opening Setup

  • Domestic mood: Tuesday’s recovery puts buyers back in contention.
  • GIFT Nifty: 22,765, down 85.50 points or 0.37% against its displayed reference.
  • Opening comparison: Approximately 70 points below the previous onshore Nifty futures close of 22,834.80.
  • Source timestamp: 14 October, 3:04 AM.
  • Practical reading: A softer opening indication, not a guaranteed 70-point fall in the cash index.

Futures include a premium or discount to the cash market. Simply comparing GIFT Nifty with the previous Nifty spot close can give a misleading opening signal.

Yesterday’s Indian Stock Market Post-Market Summary — 13 October 2026

Sensex jumped 1,109 points and Nifty reclaimed 22,700 on Tuesday. IT stocks led the recovery, while domestic institutional buying helped offset foreign selling.

FII/FPI−₹1,305 croreForeign investors remained net sellers
DII+₹2,439 croreDomestic institutions supported the market
Combined net activity+₹1,134 croreDomestic buying exceeded foreign selling

Reported provisional figures, rounded to the nearest crore. Combined activity is calculated from those rounded figures.

What Drove the Rally?

  • IT earnings lifted sentiment: HCLTech rose 8.42% to ₹1,326 following its quarterly results.
  • Tax-related comments encouraged buying: The Finance Minister’s willingness to hear stakeholders’ views on LTCG tax and STT supported late-session sentiment. No formal tax reduction was announced in the report reviewed.
  • Several sectors participated: Metals, PSU banks, autos, consumer durables and realty gained around 1% each.
  • Smaller shares lagged: Midcaps rose approximately 0.7%, while smallcaps were broadly flat.

Major Gainers and Laggards

  • Among the leading Nifty gainers: HCLTech, TCS, Shriram Finance, Tech Mahindra and Infosys.
  • Among the laggards: Eternal, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Max Healthcare, Power Grid and Maruti Suzuki.

What the Session Means for Investors

Tuesday’s recovery improved sentiment, but it was stronger in the headline indices than in smaller stocks. Continued foreign selling also means the rally did not receive support from every investor group.

The next test is whether Nifty can sustain its recovery around 22,700 with broader participation. Bank strength and improving market breadth would make the rebound more convincing than another IT-led rise alone.

Global Cues: US and European Markets

IndexLatest completed-session readingChange

S&P 500*7,805.64−0.02%
Nasdaq Composite27,204.38−0.15%

UK FTSE 100*10,650.33−0.06%
France CAC 407,827.63−0.07%

US technology sentiment remained cautious as investors questioned how much further the chip rally could run ahead of earnings.

That creates an interesting contrast with Tuesday’s strong Indian IT performance. Company results and management guidance may matter more for individual Indian IT stocks than the Nasdaq’s direction alone.

Asian Markets, GIFT Nifty and Commodities — 14 October 2026

Asian markets were mixed this morning. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan recovered, while GIFT Nifty indicated a softer Indian opening. Crude oil moved higher, with Brent approaching $107.

Latest retrieved snapshot for the morning update. Quotes have different timestamps and may be delayed.

Quote timing: GIFT Nifty’s source shows 7:27 AM, 14 October.

Key market cues:

  • GIFT Nifty: Around 72 points below the previous onshore Nifty futures close of 22,834.80, suggesting a softer opening. Its displayed −0.05% change uses a different reference close.
  • Asian recovery: A rebound in AI-related chipmakers supported regional sentiment after the recent sell-off.
  • Caution remains: Elevated oil prices and the approaching US inflation release kept investors watchful.

Global Commodities: Latest Available Prices

Commodity / ContractLatest displayed priceChange
Brent crude — December 2026$106.89/barrel+1.14%
WTI crude — November 2026$95.18/barrel+1.10%
Gold — spot$4,160.18/troy ounce−0.02%
Silver — spot$59.116/troy ounce−0.09%

Silver futures — December 2026$59.365/troy ounce−0.28%
Copper futures — December 2026$6.7490/lb+0.28%

The commodity dashboard shows timestamps around 22:06–22:07, with timezone unconfirmed. Futures are provider-derived quotes.

Single-line takeaway: Higher crude adds pressure to India’s import-cost outlook, while gold and silver spot prices are broadly steady in this snapshot.

MCX Gold and Silver: Previous-Night References

MCX contractPrevious-night last priceChange
Gold — December futures₹1,48,274 per 10 grams−₹1,269 (−0.85%)
Silver — December futures₹2,18,850 per kg−₹4,027 (−1.81%)

These prices were retrieved earlier with a 13 October, 11:29 PM timestamp. The pages currently show a timestamp error, so the figures are retained strictly as previous-night references—not fresh morning quotes.

Indian ADRs and GDRs: IT Receipts Rally

The latest completed US session delivered a positive signal for Indian IT:

  • Infosys ADR: $11.40, up 5.26%, at the 13 October regular-session close. The retrieved after-hours quote was $11.47, timestamped 7:23 PM EDT.
  • Wipro ADR: $1.80, up 5.88%, at the same regular-session close. The after-hours quote remained $1.80 at 7:30 PM EDT.

These gains support the IT watchlist, but some good news was already reflected in Tuesday’s Indian prices. ADR percentage gains do not translate directly into identical NSE gains.

GDR update: The consolidated GDR feed reviewed was still dated 9 October. Current 13 October prices for Reliance, L&T, SBI and other GDRs could not be verified, so stale prices are excluded.

FII and DII Activity: Domestic Buying Provides Support

Reported cash-market figures for 13 October, rounded to the nearest crore:

  • FII/FPI net selling: Approximately ₹1,305 crore.
  • DII net buying: Approximately ₹2,439 crore.
  • Combined net buying across these groups: Approximately ₹1,134 crore, calculated from the rounded figures.

These are reported provisional cash-market flows, not a measure of all foreign investment or derivatives exposure.

Domestic purchases exceeded foreign selling. However, FIIs had not turned net buyers. That distinction matters when judging the strength of the rebound.

Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex: Support and Resistance

The following are editorial watch zones, rounded around recent prices and psychological levels. They are not exchange-published targets or promises that prices will reverse there.

Nifty 50

  • Previous close: 22,721.95.
  • First area to defend: 22,600–22,700.
  • Lower watch levels: 22,500, then 22,300.
  • Upside hurdles: 22,800, followed by 23,000.

Holding the first zone after an opening dip would improve the recovery case. Sustained trading below 22,500 would suggest that Tuesday’s gains are being given back.

Bank Nifty

  • Previous close: 55,481.05.
  • Support watch: 55,000–55,200.
  • Resistance watch: 55,500, followed by 56,000.

Banks need to participate for a broader advance. A rally driven mainly by IT could leave the benchmark vulnerable when that sector pauses.

Sensex

  • Previous close: 73,033.78.
  • Support watch: 72,500, then 72,000.
  • Resistance watch: 73,050, followed by 73,500.

Treat these as areas for observing price behaviour. A brief move across a round number is weaker evidence than a sustained move supported by wider participation.

Open Interest, Put-Call Ratio and India VIX

India VIX was reported at 14.04 at Tuesday’s close, down about 7.4%. Falling implied volatility suggests reduced demand for expensive protection, but it does not rule out a sharp move.

A reliable, timestamped options snapshot for the relevant upcoming expiry could not be verified. This edition therefore does not publish a numerical PCR, maximum call OI or maximum put OI.

For beginners, OI-based PCR equals total put open interest divided by total call open interest for the selected expiry. Comparing different expiries can produce a misleading conclusion.

Before using options positioning today:

  • Check the exact expiry and update time.
  • Read changes in OI alongside price movement.
  • Do not treat high put OI as guaranteed support.
  • Avoid carrying an expired contract’s PCR into a new session.

The option-chain page reviewed returned older data when opened, so its ratio was excluded.

MCX Gold, December₹1,48,274/10g−0.85%
MCX Silver, December₹2,18,850/kg−1.81%

International futures are provider-derived quotes. International readings carry different timestamps. MCX quotes are timestamped 13 October, 11:29 PM; they are previous-night last prices, not Wednesday opening prices.

For India, expensive oil keeps import costs and inflation in focus.

For bullion buyers, international metal prices are only part of the story: the rupee also affects domestic prices. Futures quotes should not be confused with jewellery prices, which include separate charges and taxes.

Currency and Global News to Watch

  • Dollar Index: Approximately 101.99 in the retrieved dashboard.
  • USD/INR: Tuesday’s market report referred to the rupee around ₹95.4 per dollar. This is a session reference, not a verified Wednesday opening quote.
  • Morning limitation: A fresh onshore rupee quote was unavailable at the early cutoff.

A steadier rupee can ease imported-cost pressure. Exporters may face a different earnings effect, depending on their currency hedges and overseas costs.

Two global developments deserve attention:

  1. IMF outlook: The IMF raised its 2026 global growth estimate to 3.1%, while highlighting risks from war, debt and dependence on AI investment.
  2. Energy and geopolitics: Oil traders weighed possible Russian diesel supply relief against Gulf supply risks. OPEC also reduced its 2026 oil-demand growth forecast.

Markets remain sensitive to energy headlines. A diplomatic statement is not the same as a confirmed restoration of physical supplies.

Recent SEBI Updates and Their Market Impact

Two recent circulars were verified on SEBI’s website:

  • 7 October — Credit Risk-o-Meter for debt securities: An additional disclosure mechanism intended to make credit risk easier to recognize. It concerns debt-market transparency; it does not make bonds risk-free.
  • 1 October — Project Jagrook messages: A circular covering investor-awareness messages on brokers’ apps and websites. Its direct relevance is better risk communication to users.

These measures should be assessed on their actual scope. Neither is a reason by itself to expect an immediate rise in Nifty.

Two Growth Stocks to Study: Coforge and KEI Industries

These are research watchlist examples, not personalised recommendations. Q1 FY27 figures are historical results, and subsequent earnings can change the outlook.

Coforge: Growth With Acquisition and Execution Risks

The company’s Q1 FY27 release reported:

  • Revenue of ₹5,527.7 crore, up 49% year on year.
  • PAT of ₹518.6 crore, up 110%.
  • EBITDA margin of 20.3%.
  • A next-12-month executable order book of $2.23 billion.

The growth case rests on turning orders into revenue while protecting margins. Because the business includes the Encora acquisition, headline growth should not automatically be treated as entirely organic.

Technical reference: NSE historical data showed a 13 October close of ₹1,929, with a high of ₹1,943.50 and low of ₹1,852.20.

Those session extremes provide an initial framework. Sustained strength above the high would improve momentum, while a break below the low would weaken it.

Outlook: Follow organic growth, acquisition integration, cash generation and the next earnings guidance. A strong order book helps visibility but does not remove valuation risk.

Q1 FY27 financial results — Official company release

KEI Industries: Earnings Growth Beyond the IT Rebound

KEI’s Q1 FY27 standalone filing showed:

  • Revenue of ₹3,185.34 crore, versus ₹2,590.32 crore a year earlier.
  • Net profit of ₹274.14 crore, versus ₹195.75 crore.
  • Calculated growth of approximately 23% in revenue and 40% in profit.

The attraction is faster profit growth than sales. The next check is whether cash flow, working capital and margins support that improvement.

Technical reference: BSE-based data showed a 13 October close of ₹4,645, with a session range of ₹4,507–₹4,645. NSE prices can differ slightly, so use the same exchange when comparing levels.

The session low is an initial downside reference; the high is the first level for testing continued buying.

Outlook: Watch sales volumes, raw-material costs and the cash required to fund growth. Good quarterly numbers alone do not establish that the share is cheaply valued.

  • Fusion CX: Opens 14–16 October; price band ₹275–₹289.
  • Ravita Engineering Services, SME: Opens 14–16 October; ₹105–₹112.
  • HD Fire Protect: Ongoing 13–15 October; ₹258–₹271.
  • Vaibhav Vyapaar, SME: Ongoing 13–15 October; ₹51–₹54.

Short-Term and Long-Term Investment Approach

For Short-Term Participants

A softer opening after a strong rally can produce quick reversals. Let the opening range develop before deciding whether buyers are defending Tuesday’s gains.

Keep position sizes tied to the amount you can afford to lose. A stop-loss order may execute below the intended price during a fast move, so risk control starts with the size of the position.

For Long-Term Investors

Separate an attractive business from an attractive entry price. Review earnings quality, debt, cash conversion and valuation before adding to a holding.

For investors without the time to track individual companies, diversified funds can reduce dependence on one stock’s results. Money needed for near-term expenses should not depend on an equity-market recovery.

Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points

  • Opening bias: Overnight GIFT Nifty suggests a softer start; fresh morning trading may change that signal.
  • Nifty focus: Holding 22,600–22,700 would support consolidation after Tuesday’s rally; 22,800 is the next upside hurdle.
  • Banking test: Bank Nifty needs stronger participation around 55,500 to broaden the recovery.
  • Sector watch: IT may remain active after the ADR rally, with earnings expectations deciding whether gains hold.
  • Main risk: Energy headlines, fresh foreign selling or weak breadth could interrupt the rebound; one strong session does not confirm a trend reversal.
