Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today October 8, 2026: GIFT Nifty Near 22,600, Crude Near $102

Indian markets face a cautious opening after Wednesday’s RBI rate hike ended a two-session recovery. Nifty closed at 22,603.05, while the available overnight GIFT Nifty quote stood at 22,557.

The immediate question is whether buyers can defend the 22,500–22,400 zone. Higher borrowing costs, foreign selling and a weak rupee make a quick recovery harder.

Indian Markets Pre Market Report Today: October 7, 2026: Post-Market Summary

Indian markets ended lower on Wednesday, snapping a two-session recovery after the RBI raised the repo rate to 5.50% and shifted its stance to calibrated tightening. Banks held up better than the headline indices.

Index and stock data: closing snapshots and market reports. VIX is rounded because available sources differ slightly.

Institutional figures use the latest retrieved cash-market dataset; the combined flow is calculated. Currency and RBI forecasts follow the closing reports.

Levels to Carry Into the Next Session

  • Nifty support: 22,550 initially, followed by the broader 22,500–22,400 zone.
  • Nifty resistance: 22,700–22,800; a sustained recovery above 22,800 would improve the setup.
  • Bank Nifty support: Around 54,740, followed by 54,575.
  • Bank Nifty resistance: Around 55,280, followed by 55,446.

Market takeaway: Wednesday’s decline interrupted the recovery. Banking resilience offered some support, but foreign selling and rupee weakness kept the overall mood cautious.

Global Cues: US and European Markets Retreat

October 7 Closing Snapshot

IndexClosing levelDaily change
Dow Jones51,179.22−342.06 (−0.66%)
S&P 500Around 7,802−0.22%
Nasdaq Composite27,538.69−61.20 (−0.22%)

France CAC 407,769.21−95.86 (−1.22%)
STOXX Europe 600630.25−1.00%

The S&P 500 is rounded because available closing feeds differ slightly. Some dashboard indices are labelled “derived” by the provider.

  • US cue: Rising Treasury yields weighed on shares, particularly businesses sensitive to borrowing costs.
  • European cue: Bond-market pressure and expensive energy hurt risk appetite.
  • India takeaway: Overseas weakness offers little support for an immediate rebound after the RBI decision.

The US 10-year yield briefly crossed 5.36%, according to the closing review. Higher bond yields can make expensive equities less attractive because investors have better returns available in fixed income.

Asian Markets and GIFT Nifty — October 8, 2026

Morning check: around 7:43 AM IST. Quotes have different update times; GIFT Nifty’s latest retrieved timestamp is 7:38 AM IST.

Japan and Hong Kong figures are provider-labelled derived quotes, rather than verified exchange-direct cash readings. Asian dashboard timestamps vary; the retrieved page does not identify their timezone.

Why GIFT Nifty Is Green but the Opening Signal Is Cautious

GIFT Nifty’s +0.18% change is against its displayed previous close of 22,558. It remains about 35 points below the previous domestic Nifty futures close of 22,632.90 shown by the same provider.

That suggests a flat-to-mildly negative opening indication, rather than a clear gap-up. Futures premiums and contract differences mean this is not an exact opening forecast.

International futures rows are provider-derived quotes, not official settlements. Their retrieved timestamps were approximately 21:48–21:50 on the provider clock; its timezone was not stated.

MCX clarification: Fresh morning trading has not started. The gold and silver figures above were recorded at 11:29 PM IST on October 7 in the earlier check. The refreshed pages currently have an invalid timestamp, so these prices must remain labelled previous-night references, not live October 8 quotes.

What This Means for Indian Markets

  • Asian cues are mostly weak, although mainland China is positive.
  • GIFT Nifty has improved from the earlier overnight reading of 22,557.
  • Crude is rising again: Middle East shipping attacks and supply concerns are supporting prices.
  • Gold and silver are firmer internationally, but their MCX morning response is still pending.

Updated article takeaway: GIFT Nifty has recovered towards 22,600, but weaker Asian markets and Brent near $102 keep the Indian opening outlook cautious.

Indian ADR and GDR Overnight Update

These are October 7 regular-session closes, quoted in US dollars:

  • Infosys ADR: $10.55, unchanged. After-hours quote: $10.53 at 7:30 PM EDT.
  • HDFC Bank ADR: $22.14, down 1.25%. After-hours quote: $22.20 at 7:12 PM EDT.
  • DR, London: $49.45, down 1.88%. Provider timestamp: 4:35 PM BST.

These are useful sentiment checks for Indian heavyweights. They should not be converted directly into domestic opening targets because currency movements, depositary ratios and trading hours differ.

Global News and Geopolitical Developments

Oil remains an important link between overseas news and Indian portfolios.

Overnight reporting highlighted supply concerns around Houthi attacks and storm-related disruption in the US Gulf. Oil later eased as improved supply prospects helped offset those worries.

For India, the practical watchlist is:

  • Whether Brent stays around the $100 mark.
  • Whether shipping disruptions raise freight and insurance expenses.
  • Whether US yields cool after their latest rise.
  • Whether the rupee stabilises despite foreign equity outflows.

A temporary fall in crude helps sentiment. But one lower settlement is not enough to assume lasting relief for transport, paints or other energy-sensitive businesses.

Nifty, Bank Nifty and Sensex Support and Resistance

SensexAround 72,470, then 72,300Around 73,020, then 73,200

Nifty and Bank Nifty levels are published pivot references. Sensex’s first levels are rounded previous-session extremes; 72,300 and 73,200 are editorial watch zones, not calculated exchange levels.

For Nifty, 22,800 remains the broader recovery hurdle. Support zones are areas to observe buying interest, not guaranteed floors.

Bank Nifty’s ability to hold around 55,000 deserves attention after its comparatively smaller decline.

Sensex Weekly Expiry Watch — October 8, 2026

72,70010.2 lakh6.0 lakh
72,80011.1 lakh3.7 lakh
73,00029.4 lakh3.9 lakh

How to Read Today’s Setup

  • Around 72,600: Watch whether price holds above or below the previous close’s nearest strike. Max pain alone is not a reason to enter.
  • Near 72,470–72,500: Check price behaviour alongside fresh Put OI changes. Yesterday’s positions may unwind quickly.
  • Near 73,000: A sustained breakout with Call OI reducing would suggest that the existing resistance is weakening.
  • Near 72,000: Large Put OI makes it a monitoring level, not a guaranteed floor.
  • After the opening: Refresh the entire chain. Overnight gaps can make yesterday’s premiums, ATM strike and positioning less useful.

Important distinction: Every outstanding option has both a buyer and a seller. Rising OI alone does not establish bullishness, bearishness or fresh option writing.

Expiry reminder: Option premiums can lose time value quickly, while small index moves can cause sharp premium swings. Use defined risk and check your broker’s expiry-day square-off timing.

For educational purposes only. Verify live exchange or broker data before trading; derivatives involve substantial risk.

Open Interest, PCR and India VIX

Options Positioning

Moneycontrol’s weekly-options summary identifies:

  • Call OI concentrations: 23,000, 22,800 and 22,700.
  • Put OI concentrations in its snapshot: 22,600, 22,200 and 22,500.
  • Reported Nifty PCR: 0.89, against 1.06 previously.
  • India VIX: 13.88, up 2.04%.
  • PCR: 0.81.
  • Max pain: 22,650.
  • Displayed total Call OI: 13.72 crore.
  • Displayed total Put OI: 11.16 crore.

The OI totals use the provider’s displayed quantity convention. They should not be described as crore exchange lots without checking the underlying units. Different expiry coverage can also produce different PCR readings.

PCR compares Put OI with Call OI. It does not reveal buyer or seller intent on its own. Likewise, max pain is a positioning calculation, not a promised settlement level.

FII and DII Activity

  • FII net selling: ₹6,121.40 crore.
  • DII net buying: ₹4,596.60 crore.
  • Combined net flow: ₹1,524.80 crore selling, calculated from those figures.

Foreign selling was more than twice Tuesday’s amount. Domestic purchases provided support but did not fully offset it.

These are cash-market flow figures, not a complete measure of foreign activity across equities, debt and derivatives.

New SEBI Updates and Their Market Impact

SEBI’s October 7 circular list includes:

  • Introduction of a Credit Risk-o-Meter for debt securities.
  • Merchant-banker appointment exemptions for certain listed issuers making private debt placements.
  • Changes to ISIN provisions for privately placed debt securities.

These concern debt-market disclosures and issuance processes. Their direct relevance is stronger for bond investors and corporate borrowers than for an intraday Nifty trade.

Check each circular’s scope and effective date before applying it. A risk display can help comparison, but it does not remove the possibility of default or poor liquidity.

Two Growth Stocks to Track

1. KEI Industries: Earnings Growth With Cable Demand

KEI’s Q1 FY27 presentation reports:

  • Net sales: ₹3,185.34 crore, up about 23% year on year.
  • EBITDA: ₹415.41 crore.
  • Net profit: ₹274.14 crore, against ₹195.75 crore a year earlier.

The business offers exposure to electrification and cable demand. The next checks are whether sales growth converts into cash and whether expansion spending earns satisfactory returns.

Technical view: NSE closing data shows ₹4,677.70, up 2.64%, with a session range near ₹4,495–₹4,689.

Holding above the upper end would be a sign of follow-through. Slipping back into the range would weaken that signal. These are observations from the previous session, not buy targets.

Outlook: Worth tracking for earnings delivery, with raw-material costs, working capital and valuation kept in view.

KEI Industries – Official Q1 FY27 Earnings Presentation

2. Laurus Labs: Better Margins, but Price Discipline Matters

Laurus reported Q1 FY27:

  • Revenue: ₹2,026 crore.
  • EBITDA: ₹644 crore.
  • EBITDA margin: 31.8%, against 24.8% a year earlier.

Revenue grew about 29%, calculated from the company’s ₹1,570 crore prior-year figure. These are June-quarter results, not a new October earnings release.

For investors, the next question is whether stronger earnings can continue as capacity and customer programmes develop. Track cash generation and capital spending alongside margins.

Technical view: The stock closed at ₹2,052.80, with a day’s range of ₹2,035.60–₹2,065.20. The upper end also marked its reported 52-week high.

A sustained move above that area would strengthen momentum. Losing the previous day’s low would weaken the immediate setup.

Outlook: A growth watchlist candidate, but a strong business and an attractive entry price are separate questions.

IPO Updates: Listings and Upcoming Issues

Zerodha’s calendar lists the following for October 8:

  • Nityas Gems and Jewellery: Mainboard listing; issue band ₹70–₹75.
  • Vishal Nirmiti: Mainboard listing; issue band ₹208–₹220.
  • Shree TNB Polymers: SME listing; issue band ₹50–₹53.
  • EverestIMS Technologies: SME listing; issue band ₹80–₹85.

Other scheduled SME listings include Omara Ventures India, Dove Soft, Sollfege Smart Electronics, Eventions and SJP Ultrasonics.

Upcoming: HD Fire Protect is scheduled for October 13–15, at ₹258–₹271.

Recently closed: R.K. Fashion Accessories closed on October 7; the calendar shows October 12 as its listing date.

These are issue bands and scheduled dates, not live listing prices.

Before applying or buying on listing day, check the prospectus, valuation, use of funds and available liquidity. Grey-market premiums are not guaranteed returns.

International rows are provider quotes, not official settlement prices. Their displayed timestamps run around 19:48–19:49 on the provider clock, except Brent at 17:59:59; the retrieved page does not identify that clock’s timezone.

MCX numbers are previous-night last traded prices, not fresh morning trades or jewellery-shop rates.

The rupee weakened despite the RBI hike. Expensive oil and a weaker currency can combine to raise import costs. A lower international gold price also need not translate into an equal domestic decline when the rupee is falling.

Short-Term and Long-Term Investment View

For Short-Term Traders

  • Observe the opening range before treating an early bounce as a reversal.
  • Compare Nifty’s movement with banking strength and overall market breadth.
  • Use a defined loss limit; overnight news can push prices beyond planned exits.
  • Check the correct expiry and fresh OI before using options data.

A market can open weak and recover, or open firm and attract sellers. The response after the opening matters more than the first quote.

For Long-Term Investors

  • Compare earnings growth with the price being paid.
  • Examine cash flows, debt and expansion requirements.
  • Spread purchases across time when uncertainty is high.
  • Keep near-term spending money separate from equity investments.

KEI and Laurus provide two different businesses to study. Neither should be bought simply because it appears in a daily report.

Today’s Market Forecast: Five Points to Watch

  • Opening bias is cautious: Overnight GIFT Nifty at 22,557 points to a soft setup; fresh morning trading may change it.
  • Nifty’s nearby support deserves attention: Sustained selling below the previous session’s low would weaken the recovery attempt.
  • A bounce needs participation: Bank strength alone is insufficient without improvement across more stocks.
  • Oil and the rupee remain pressure points: Expensive imports can keep inflation and margin concerns alive.
  • Expect selective trading: Earnings quality, valuation and price confirmation matter more than chasing an early move.
